Opinion/Tips Installing IP4M-1083EW-AI

Post by twl68 »

I am installing a IP4M-1083EW-AI camera with a POE CAT6 cable ran to a 4K NVR 16 Port (NV4216E-AI) with powered speakers and mic. I want to make sure that I am installing this camera correctly with the right accessories. This is my first time installing a camera this big and high up off the ground. I am paying some guys to help with installation. I have read a lot on this forum and watched the YouTube Amcrest Channel on installing cameras and speaker/mic. All opinions/tips will be greatly appreciated.

1. IP4M-1083EW-AI installed at top of lighted metal pole (35’ from ground).

2. Mic (5’ off ground)

3. Powered Speakers (10’ off ground)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0195 ... UTF8&psc=1

4. Speaker Wire
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006L ... UTF8&psc=1

5. Speaker Connectors
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0097 ... UTF8&psc=1

6. RCA Cable – I will connect this cable to the Speakers/Mic Inputs and cut to fit/solder fitting to the dongals of the camera

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

Nice setup, I do have the 4216E-AI NVR myself and have been very happy with 90% of it lol. I mean it is hard to be 100% happy with anything IMHO.

About the Camera, I only wish I could afford one. Wish I had more info about how I think it should work or how it does work, I have not been able to find anyone to help confirm or let me even look at the WebUI of one. (Take for a test drive because I think I know how it can be setup)

I have a few to many PTZ cameras myself. Older Amcrest before the AI was out. I have some older AI camera from another company that are way old and outdated but works well enough for my needs. With options that I think Amcrest has added to their AI PTZ. Mine is from 2014 and some 2015/16.

First off, Most important when your talking about a camera that is almost a grand. Need to use the right cable type. One of the biggest issues today is finding a Quality Cat5e or Cat6 cable that is really Copper. (YOU DON'T WANT TO USE CCA) If your cable is CCA do your self a favor and don't use it for your camera. In Theory you should be using STP cables and make sure that your Entry into your home or outbuilding has a Ground Ethernet Surge Protector. They are much cheaper today then they were when I bought them many years ago. They also have some that offer POE++ and will all work the lower POE and POE+ They should be used in Both sides. Home/Office outbuilding and the camera location for best protection. This needs to be connected using STP wire with Grounded ends installed as expected.

Second. I am sure you already know but I wouldn't do a Direct Burial method of install. While it will cost more to start out you will thank your self later. If this is only camera you expect to use in this area, then I would use 2 1/2" pipe. Sure you could get away with less however you will thank your self in the future.

One might be temped to run the cable into the Pipe and if there was a High and low chase then I would say go for it as long as it is well isolated. Last thing you want is the power for your bulbs to bled into your system. It has been a while and I moved 98% of my bulbs over to LED so it is less of an issue but still should be isolated. Personally I wouldn't. Also running outside without pipe isn't a good idea as someone would have easy access to cut the line to defeat the system.

not sure what your trying to capture for your CCTV. Just keep in mind that a Parapet would be better then attaching it directly to the pole. With it on pole you will loose an area of view at what ever is behind the camera. That is why most times when installing on pole people will use 2 PTZ and 2 static cameras.

You have power close, So I would guess that you have a Enclosure for mic and speaker power.

Camera has bare ends for Mic and Speaker with shared ground for power mic and speaker.

For me, I use Record area on the NVR to setup for full time recording at the reduced format by changing Sub channel to Manual. This will full time record the Sub channel and by doing this it will pick up full time Audio recoding. I do have 10tb installed in my NVR between 4tb and 6tb Security drives. I setup Sub Channel to record to the 6tb along with all Snapshots. I changed the Schedule for recording to Motion alarm and IVS on all 16ch, This way I am not filling up my HDD with 4, 5 6 and 8mp footage full time only when an event happens and this works well for me. One of my Systems that has a 3tb hdd that is setup this way IVS on 5mp cameras and full time recoding on a Select few of the camera I have 3 months so far with more then 1/2 the HDD left.

There is more but I need to get to bed. It is 3:15am here.
Be Safe.

Thank you Revo2Maxx,

This is my first time installing a camera system. I am pretty sure this system will do what I need for now. Thank you for the suggestions. I will also include some pictures to match the below information. Thank you again.

You are right there... not much information about the IP4M-1083EW-AI camera. I also have 5-4K Optical Zoom 8MP Cameras (IP8M-VB2896EW-AI) and 4-Ultra HD 4K 8MP (IP8M-2496EW-V2) on this system too. I have been playing around with the settings with these cameras and trying new settings through the amcrest Viewpro and in the amcrest surveillance pro on the computer.

The CAT6 I have ran is from Lowes. All connectors are RJ45
https://www.lowes.com/pd/Southwire-1000 ... ox/3338742
https://www.lowes.com/pd/IDEAL-50-Pack- ... 1001424716

I am shooting the internet over from my house with the ubiquiti access point (I will get some pics of this and see what you think)
https://store.ui.com/products/access-point-wifi-6-mesh

I am also using the ubiquiti ethernet surge protectors (I will get some pics of this and see what you think)
https://store.ui.com/collections/operat ... -protector

What do you mean by "This needs to be connected using STP wire with Grounded ends installed as expected". Is this in the RJ45 Connection (Standard)

All wire is ran in conduit with junction boxes.

The metal pole does have LED bulbs installed (all 4 lights). Also, the conduit goes through the concrete footing and into the metal pole at the bottom. There is no conduit inside the metal pole. Because of this I was worried about interference from the electric going to the LED lights. Is there something you would do to better isolate the CAT6 going inside the pole up to the top (ie try and get a 1/2" conduit into the metal pole and run the CAT6 in that)?

I was going to mount to the pole. But now you have me thinking about using a Parapet. The IP4M-1083EW-AI camera does come with a L-shaped bracket. But having the parapet would allow for more/better view. The view from behind the camera is already captured from other cameras. This IP4M-1083EW-AI is mainly to catch the driveway (260 degree'ish areas).

Yes, power is at the pole and inside it for the speakers and mic. I have an electrician friend helping me hook all that up.

I bought 2-8TB for this NVR for storeage. I will look at your suggestion for the setting on the recording.

An important thing to consider is how stable your camera will be on your 35' pole top.  With winds, you will likely have a shakey image.  And the more you zoom in camera, the worse it gets.
I think you could test it from the ground by pointing camera to pole top and viewing with various zooms to see how much it is vibrating in different winds, even with the camera weight not up there.
This strongpoles.com video may help explain it.

To me, it looks like your camera has lots of information.

Yeah personally your pole seems to be well enough for 4 large lights. I wouldn't worry about a Stronpole unless you need to for business reasons. If you have a camera already looking at the area behind your PTZ then I would personally have no issue using a Dahua Pole mount adapter with the camera and mount it to the pole. If you were going to do so at the Corner. Or just mount to the pole if your able to would be strongest way to mount it

So Disk Group is the area where you can pick what and where your system is recording. It is kind of a Pain to setup the first time. Just click the area you want to setup, (Main Stream) it will load in and show all 16ch then use the drop down to choose what HDD you want it recording too. Then sub channel and snapshots again you will have to set them one by 1.. (See Pictures Below) Glad I just looked lol. I had 16 on the wrong HDD all the rest of them were right. I guess I got side tracked.. Anyway

About the Ends. I am not sure how far or where or how your running you're cables to your camera. The location of your NVR to that. But the reason I was saying STP is that it has Shielding that runs the length of the cable and with the ends connected where they are grounded as should be when running outside where lightning could be an issue. Ends are grounded and they connect to an connector that is then grounded to a ground rod and when working with a camera that is almost a grand that is one step I wouldn't pass really. However having your camera mounted below the lights and all wires running in pipe then my guess is it should be fine..

I am sure there are a lot of people that have just tossed a camera in the air and had it there without issue and Sure I have been one of them. I have also lost a few cameras along the way. Lucky for me I work in Electronics so I make my own repairs. But when it comes to a new 1083 that isn't a camera that I would be tossing around asking for lightning to try and fry it..

About shooting data. I personally wouldn't be for the camera feed. I have and do use a Nanostation loco but if it isn't perfect feeds can have connection issues. Using the data for connection to a outbuilding with a NVR and access WebUI over the air is best. 100% data coming from a Nano that you want to use for security it can happen but can have issues.

...
Personally, I don't like shakey video and was merely warning OP to consider and evaluate it before spending a lot of effort and money to put it on top of a very TALL 35' post. I have seen shakey pole camera video.   I was not suggesting changing the post.

Thank you Jack7

The link to strongpoles and the amcrest 1083EW information this is very helpful. I think the pole is very stable at this point in winds (hopefully I am right). I don't see any issues at the moment with the shakiness of the lights. However, I was wondering about the lights being on at night interfering with the image of the 1083EW camera. Maybe I should get one of those arms that attached to the metal pole and go out about 3' and the 1083EW camera would mount onto that arm. What's your thoughts on mounting the camera this way? Would you mount above the lights at like 40' or would you mount below the lights at 30'ish. I know the mounts are pricey, but the camera will be up there a long time and I want the best picture and the best range of motion form the PTZ

So, If I am reading your statements right ... I should put one of these ethernet surge protectors on the actually 1083EW camera? Like mount the surge protector onto the metal pole? And then also another ethernet surge protector on the inside of building before it plugs into the NVR?

I have included some pics of the wifi set up (shooting internet from house) and the NVR and how I have it hook up right now. I have used all ubiquiti supplies for the wifi and for the external wifi for outside the shop. I have this set up on another network. The house is set up on its own network.

Re: Opinion/Tips Installing IP4M-1083EW-AI

2 things to think about when it comes to Shaky videos. 1 it is really a mess like jack7 was saying. Looking at your pole first thing that came to mind was that it was strong enough and while I might be wrong but your pole kind of looks like Steel and is on a large well planted base.

Second and worst part about these type of cameras is that the head is outside of the base of the camera. I have some normal dome cameras that I still use today that the camera is inside the dome and there is less shake. However them cameras also offer a DIS feature and is one thing I wish the Amcrest had. At least I have not been able to find one on any of my 850's or 853's. Might be a option on the 1083 I personally don't know. However keep in mind that if there is some shaky Video with the 1083 I would double check the cameras head. If the Belts stretch or wear out it might cause the shake even without the pole shaking. I have some older open head PTZ cameras that I have 4 of. 3 of the 4 was always very tight the 4th one even with DIS turned on would drive me insane. Even after replacing the belts in the camera there was shake and found that the motors were just not good. The thing with the Amcrest cameras they are very well built and normally the head once turned on is very stable. However I do have my 850's that the heads are starting to take on more air travel then I care and they are very well mounted. My guess is that it could be belt starting to wear or the motors. Going up to the camera I can move the head slight up and slight left to right. Because these motors are stepper motors it has to be bad belt or warn motors. (My camera is mounted to an area that it will hold my weight and I am not a little guy) So keep in mind that with the type of head the 1083 PTZ camera has there can be issues that are not related to the mounting area.

Looking at the manual there are features I think are in the camera that the manual don't talk about and there are parts of the manual that alludes to the idea of what I am thinking and that is why I say there isn't any or enough data about the camera. Lets just say this. I have a camera from 2014 that has the ability to setup per Preset if I want it color or B/W (Day or Night) and if I want that Preset to be IVS Intrusion or Tripwire. I know there is Deep IVS in the 1083 but I just don't know how Deep it goes as it really don't say when looking at the manual. So that is why I said first hand knowledge would be great. To be Clear, Manual shows features in Deep IVS preset under 1 and all the features are showing under 1 so that is why I am wonder if preset 1 can have Tripwire in an area that it could be used and then in preset 2 have it setup for Intrusion. My guess is that the answer is yes, However the manual don't show that in each of the presets it only shows 1 preset with different IVS rules in that 1 preset. Then there is MetaData info and my guess this is going to give stats on how many people, cars or non cars have passed the IVS scene. However in the manual it don't show any live info about it so one has to guess what it is. Also in the Report field again one will have to guess. I mean I have some stats on my 1046EW-AI Camera that I can get a Heat Map. Manual says you need a AI NVR to use the feature that isn't the case, I do have AI NVR and I can get the data from the camera or my AI NVR. People counting don't work as it should..

I was just trying to help with some ideas. I don't have the camera, I do have a good few PTZ cameras and was offering some things that I seen on what I would do and or have done with my own system.

Last part of the OP and Lights. Personally if you were under the lights on the pole I think would be best placement for your camera. If you are in an area like my where I have many days that are Humid, foggy, rain filled and or snowy keep in mind that you might need to make some adjustments on them days at night. I would look at using your cameras in Color at night and will be the best way to keep your scene at best view power. Reason I was asking about wanting more info with the camera, is my camera from 2014 that is older AI Tech I have the ability to setup Globe night time use in B/W and setup each preset in a different format. no matter time or day going to that preset it will change to color if set for color and or black and white if needs be. With a scene like yours, You could benefit from such setting. Have Global setup for Auto and this is good because if your normal preset areas are within your lighted area then color could work however if you happen to move the camera into an area where you light don't reach or would be good to work in IR mode with zoom ability the way I normally have my Amcrest PTZ's setup with ZoomPrio turned on. Sure my 853 wasn't setup that way because it was not being zoomed to far out so there was no need to use anything besides SmartIR. On my 850's I have them setup with Priority and when I zoom it to an area it turns on the Hi Beams lol. Having a camera 20 or more in the air with large zoom area I would look into using ZoomPrio rather then SmartIR. just saying. With having enough light and camera in Color it can help push past the beam that you might get from fog nights or nights with rain or snow. And having ability to have Global setup for IR will help to see things past your lighting area.
Be Safe.
