I'm experiencing image distortion with a new IP5M-D1188EW-28MM whenever I select any 16:9 video format (720p, 1080p, 2688x1520.)
I do not see this distortion when selecting a default 4:3 video format (2592x1944.)
I've tried both available firmware files with similar results.
The attached pictures show the camera's view with a default 4:3 resolution selected (amcrest2.png) and a 16:9 format like 1080p selected (amcrest1.png).
Tech support claims they have not had any reports of this kind of error.
Has anyone else encountered this issue or found a fix?
Thanks

Re: IP5M-D1188EW-28MM: distorted 16:9
I don't understand your picture sizes?
Can you log into your camera WebUI, bring up live view and then at the top click on Snapshot for the camera.
I setup one of mine for 1080, 5mp, and VGA and none of them are your picture sizes.
Are the Video feeds being used in a 3rd party software or hardware device?
1080P 5mp VGA

Also my camera is different type but can you confirm that you have or don't have the ability to rotate the lens in the housing? Sorry I don't know how it works for this camera so I have to ask questions. But I have some cameras from years past that I can rotate the lens in the camera body to make short for a path way or wide for full view and then in OSD I can make an adjustment so the picture is facing the right direction.
Could it be that the lens in the housing is turned?
I mean by default a 5mp picture is longer then wide, If you click on each of my photos and look in a new tab they will show size of window and you can make full size for the idea of what I am talking about. Your pictures are small even under VGA format and I guess maybe was reduced for upload? I don't know but need to see your FULL image to get better idea of what is going on..

Re: IP5M-D1188EW-28MM: distorted 16:9
Thank you for the reply.
Here are three images from the web UI + screenshot button: 640x480, 1080p, and 5MP.
The 4:3 images (640x480 and 5MP) appear correct, but the 1080p image appears stretched horizontally.
I guess the camera is taking a 4:3 image and stretching/scaling it to fit the requested 16:9 resolution.
Given the camera's 5MP image is native 4:3, that's why I'm guessing about the scaling problem I'm experiencing.
I did rotate the lens (and the bracket that allows for tilt) to achieve a level view (currently set to 0-deg image rotation in the setup.)
Thanks again.

I don't know really. Looking at the pictures there they look like they are in line with how I would expect them to look in each format?

dangled,
Look at the file sizes of your five pictures. You did something very different in producing the first two pics.

Re: IP5M-D1188EW-28MM: distorted 16:9
Revo2Maxx: compare the shape of the doors or that white sign on the front corner of the building (or the car in my original cropped images). The 1080p image is a 4:3 picture stretched horizontally to fill the 16:9 format of 1080P.
I do not see a similar issue with the images from your 5MP camera. Do you have the same model camera as mine?
jack7: my original images were cropped from the full images to highlight the stretched picture w/1080p (all 16:9 formats from that camera.) Notice how the car's shape is distorted in one of the images.
At this point, I think it's a defective product, and I'll contact Amcrest for a refund or exchange for another product.
Thank you for taking a look.

Re: IP5M-D1188EW-28MM: distorted 16:9
No as I stated before my cameras are not the same as yours. It is however a 5mp camera that can work in 5, 4, 2mp and VGA.
So I do see what your talking about. This leads me to a question of did you set it to full screen your picture. While I can't get my camera to do this because of the type of camera it is.
I did log into my Amcrest 1046EW-AI camera to show what I am talking about. In these 2 pictures they are in 4mp mode however I have the one the way it normally looks and the way I can have it look by the software settings. Please note that these were screen shots from my camera because of size issues it made the picture 11mb and I am not going to upload a 11mb picture lol.. So I did screen shot these and so size will not reflect if you zoom to full size of the picture but you can see on the right side of the pictures in the corner the same setting for image size just 2 different formats from the software in the WebUI.. The Real aka Original size is the one with the black on both sides. The other picture is again same size just using Adaptive mode?
So from what your talking about, It would seem that by default whom ever designed your camera has the settings in the camera setup for when it is set at 1080p mode to use Adaptive rather then Original. That might have been needed because of a hardware issue or an over sight in the Coding of the cameras software.
If you have not made a Ticket for Amcrest, I would personally setup one and doing so might be able to get a FW update for your camera to run the camera in right format when using 1080p. Most people wouldn't use the camera in 1080p seeing they were buying it as a 5mp camera.

Re: IP5M-D1188EW-28MM: distorted 16:9
IP5M-T1179E uses same firmware as your camera according to amcrest.com/firmware
My IP5M-1179E works just like yours. I have never noticed a problem. I'm using 2021-07-12 firmware.
That's apparently the way it works. I suggest you find a different camera.

Re: IP5M-D1188EW-28MM: distorted 16:9
I've started a ticket with Amcrest support to see if this can be fixed.
Thanks.
