IP4M-1051 FTP Snapshot

Post by emhiser »

Hello:
Question to the community. I configured the IP4M-1051 to take a snapshot every minute and FTP it to the server. To my surprise, I realized that the camera deletes images older than three hours. How do I stop the camera from deleting images. I manage the image repository myself.
Thank you!

Hello and Welcome to the forum

The odd thing is that would need to be setup so maybe you setup to Delete old files once and now you don't need it that way?

Anyway WebUI Log in and Then Setup, Then on the left side Click on System, Then Auto Maintain. Then second option is to delete old after so long.. Un check the Auto delete Old Files... Mine don't go to hours only days.. If that isn't the issue then there has to be something setup in your FTP server that deletes them

Thanks for pointing out that option. On my camera it wasn't enabled so that's not it.

I just did a wireshark capture of the camera to the ftp server and discovered the camera regularly issues the FTP -> DELE command. I.e. the camera is deleting snapshot pictures. How do I disable that???

Oddly enough I've found that by enabling the option to delete old files and setting a suitably long retention period is a good way to get around this situation.
My AMCREST Cameras:-
2 x IP3M-941B firmware V2.620.00AC00.3.R, Build Date: 2019-12-18
1 x IP2M-841B firmware V2.420.AC00.18.R, Build Date: 2019-08-03

I don't know what is going on... If there is no check mark in the box for deleting out files then in Theory there should be non deleting... 2 things I would try... First one to be honest it sounds like that the camera might have been used? Or maybe it was Referb unit either way maybe a Camera Factory Reset will take care of the issue... Before doing so make sure you remember how you have things setup because while you could do a Export of your setting and then import them back in when you are done Resetting however if there is a issue that is behind the scenes it could come back in a import so that is why I wouldn't do an export or import I would just do the Factory Reset from the Camera if it has a reset button...

Another option and would be only what I would use in a bind (Like i am away from camera and can't do a Reset) and that is to mark the Check box for Deletions and set it to 30 or 90 days if it lets you go that far... This way it should only do it when setup too... However this option could make it work maybe not.. Problem is if there is thing that need some config Resetting to make all features work right. Because after you do this for this option maybe there will be other things that are not right and will make working with the camera harder then if it was reset...

That's a clever hack for a broken implementation. I'll give it a shot, all I need is 24 hour retention.

Not sure what makes you think that. This camera was 100% brand new from Amcrest.

Well didn't mean anything by it.. I buy OLD NEW Stock all the time and even have bought some Referb from Amcrest... Others have bought from a different party without having the camera reset to factory and some have had things act strange or worse there was some that had footage going to a cloud that didn't belong to them and that is not cool...

So When I get a Camera first thing I do is Factory Reset it even if it is new. Most times I will DL the FW and install it just for a Reason to Factory Reset the camera... I was guessing that maybe used because it was acting oddly like someone had used it with option of deleting files then did a FW update that can make things look like it isn't set but because they didn't factory reset it the system still has some info from old Config that wasn't flushed

Anyway hope you find the setting to help keep your footage... If you haven't maybe even a factory reset might make things work right...

I turned on the automatic delete and set it to 2 days. The camera still deletes pictures every 4 hours....
