hello amcrest:
i have several UltraHD IP3M-HX2 and ProHD IP2m-841 cameras and i have configured the IP3m-HX2 to 1080P to match the IP2M-841's 1080P resolution. i notice under low light conditions, the video from the IP3M-HX2 is comparatively much noisier (grainier) than the IP2M-841. i like to share my observations with this community if anyone else had made the same observations.
i also have one ProHD IPM-HX1 960P to compare. the video noise from IP3M-HX2 is still better than IP3M-HX2 under low light condition. it would appear the IP3M-HX2 exhibits the highest video noise.
thank you.
HX1 image is sharper than HX2. Why?

Re: IP3M-HX2 vs IP2M-841 video noise comparison
I have 2 HX2B's, HX2W and H1XB. I had the HX2's before and a week back I bought a used HX1 to do some experiments. I noticed the difference, did some googling and your post was the first one to pop up!!
INot just in low light, in bright light also, H1X is a lot sharper than H2X. The image from H2X is very hazy. You dont realize until you see both HX1 and HX2. You could call it noisy or grainy. Just that there are no details like sharp outline of objects. This is really disappointing. I thought a higher res camera would perform better. Unfortunately I am out of the return period to send the H2X back.
May be I could get a H1X as a warranty replacement but with the extra shipping and all the hassle of RMA, I could just buy a refurbished H1X for the same price.

Re: IP3M-HX2 vs IP2M-841 video noise comparison
I have attached the images from H1X and H2X taken at night using bright LED lighting.
H1X image is far superior in clarity. See how sharp the tall plant is and how sharp the leaves of the shrubs are. HX2 image has a haze everywhere. Of course a picture is worth a 1000 words.

Yes the HX2 is setup to highest possible image quality. They are both on wifi. I have tried wired also. H264H or H264B or H264 didnt make any difference.

Here is the image from IP3M-941W. Of course it will be a lot zoomed in as it has a smaller FOV. I feel that the HX1 is sharpest of the 3

HX1 image is sharper than HX2. Why?
You can go to the thread given below for some background.
Basically HX1 image is a lot sharper than HX2 image, even in bright light. This problem was reported way back in 2017 by the OP in the other thread but no one responded to that thread. May be ge got the RMA and so didnt care to pursue. Instead of just reviving a 2 yr old thread which is not going to get any attention, I started a new one.
https://amcrest.com/forum/ip-cameras-f1 ... t3042.html
I have 2 HX2B's, a HX2W and a HX1B. I didnt realize that the HX2 image has so many hazy spots until I bought a HX1 and looked at the images side by side. See images attached.
I dont think this is just one random case or a defect. The OP of the other thread reported in 2017 and now I have 3 HX2's that have an image a lot hazier than a HX1. I would like an explanation as to why a lower res camera can have a better image.

Re: HX1 image is sharper than HX2. Why?
realized that HX1 is no longer available as new either at Amcrest or Amazon. So I have to get refurbished from ebay or Amazon. Before I go that route, I want to make one attempt at salaving my 3 HX2's
I would like an explanation from Amcrest as to why a lower resolution camera has a sharper image. I dont think it is just one case. I have 2 HX2B's and one HX2W cameras and they all have the same hazy image compared to HX1. Even the IP3M-941W isnt any sharper than the HX1

Your screenshot shows the video encoding settings and I don't think that's the place to look.
I think that any improvements that you can make will be in the camera/configuration settings for each profile normal/day/night particularly the sharpness and contrast although I'm sure you have already explored those settings

Re: HX1 image is sharper than HX2. Why?
Hello I am not sure I can give a 100% good answer but I will try...
Sadly I think the H1 has a better Shutter speed then the H2. While the Hx1 has a f2.0 and the Hx2 has a f2.2 I think that will play into some of the factor. Also the Fixed lens plays a little into this mix as well... One of them is a Fixed 2.8mm lens where the HX2 is a 2.0mm Fix lens...
Sadly Both of the cameras have loads of settings that I can't see in your Pictures. Video Quality isn't going to help as longedge had mentioned with Picture Quality....
So one of the things I would try is make sure that all the settings are set the same for both cameras.... One of the main reasons I LOVE my DVR's is because if I don't like the way my cameras look if I make changes in them I can do a Reset without having to worry about changing IP and setting up Passwords again lol But TBH and fair I would Reset both Cameras back to normal or factory encoding if that option is there. Meaning if there is a way without having to reset the Whole camera back...
So while I don't have your camera I do have a 1.3Mp camera that I use at 720P.. I have Multi cameras doing double duty and so some I have set for Color at night only with Options that let me see what i want to see. While other Cameras are doing same View with Different Settings to get what this camera I am going to show you... In the first Picture it is with WDR turned on. While WDR can be a good setting it isn't how I want it. The second Picture is with HLC on and that is what I want and how I keep This Camera. Also I am not going to Resize them and even a screen shot with only changing the settings and does show more in the picture doubled picture size as well. One of the Reasons I run this mode with this camera lower space used at night other cameras catch the full view of the SUV and Car... This is mainly for Door and Plate capture of someone pulling into my Drive...
