Here are my comparison photos,
HX1:
HX2:
I can see where you might say it is sharper, However, if you look closely the HX1 has poor resolution and sharp edges, The HX2 Does a very good job at showing its resolution by smoothing out the edges and you can see things better that are further away.
HX1 Close:
HX2 Close:
Its definitely still not readable however if it was someone or something the camera will bring in higher detail of the situation vs the HX1.
I'm not sure why you are not seeing this type of detail, I know it is an indoor camera and if I am not mistaken you are looking out of a window? This is highly not advised as the cameras will pick up the glass and focus differently because of it.
I would definitely advise you to reach out to us and create a support ticket so we can work with you and see if we can increase the video quality.
HX1 image is sharper than HX2. Why?
Re: HX1 image is sharper than HX2. Why?
Picture is worth a 1000 words as you said... Try this.. If it isn't going to rain or be high RH today and you have time... Move your Cameras past the Window and take the same Screen shots as you did this time from outside. While I can't say that your 3mp will out shine your 1.3 seeing they do offer close FOV and close to same F factor but I can tell you that the Packing of Trash light will be less without reflections off the window. Same tonight... If the Area is going to be dry move the cameras outside and see what you see if the same... Sadly more MP don't always translate into Higher Quality picture... It can mean more Light Packing of blah. While it has been many years since the day of Photography class I know there is way more today then my brain can handle. I have tried to keep up with some of it...
Be Safe.
Re: HX1 image is sharper than HX2. Why?
James Thanks for the images.
I do see that overall H1X is sharper. While H2X has more information when zoomed in due to higher resolution, it is not very useful information. A 4k camera is needed if one wants to zoom into details. I am mainly looking for a sharp overall image.
If it is not much trouble, I would like to see the comparison at low light as that is where I see HX2 underperforming. I am ok with my HX2 image in bright sunlight. Also please use original aspect ratio for HX2 image. If that is your office, you could turn off the lights and use the IR vision. I would appreciate if you could post the images takes uisng IR.

Re: HX1 image is sharper than HX2. Why?
Amcrest is going to argue in favor of HX2 obviously.
You guys can argue whatever you like. I have done the comparison in low light and I am just not convinced that HX2 gives a sharper image. It is not the glass. If glass causes HX2 image to be hazy, it should also affect HX1 image. HX2 is just not capable of a sharper image in low light. The image is too hazy/grainy. Security cameras are meant to be used in low light. They are useless if they cant give a good image under low light.
After doing some A-B, here is my decicion
Return one HX2 to Amazon as it is still within 30 days
TOSS the other 2 HX2 cameras as they are out of the 30 day period. They are uselsss to me if they cant give a sharper image in low light compared to HX1.
Keep the 2 HX1B cameras that I bought from Amcrest ebay store
Try to sell one HX1W camera which is still new in the box with the plastic wrap unopened. This is from other ebay seller.
The gRass, shrubs and outlines of the stones are sharper in the HX1 image. You can clearly see the groove on the patio.
The gRass and the shrubs are just hazy in the HX2 image. The outlines of the stones and the groove on the patio are also hazy.

I am sorry to hear that you are having these issues with your device, I strongly believe this is an issue with your device, as seen with the devices I used in my reply the HX2 provides a much better picture overall. Please reach out to us via > https://amcrest.com/amcrestsupport <.
In my comparison, I used brand new devices in my tests I also changed the image quality of the HX1 but it did not make the picture better than the HX2, I reverted back to default and took comparison snips. Ultimately the HX2 has a higher quality image as seen from my photos which leads me to believe this could be an issue with your device.
Hope you are doing well beyond this issue.

My main complaint about HX2 has been that it gives a poor image in low lighting. Very hazy, grainy image. But what you took were in very bright office lighting. You have not posted the low light images that I had requested. So your comparison may not conclusively prove that HX2 gives a sharper image under low lighting.
I care about an overall sharp image. Because HX2 just does not have enough resolution to zoom in on an object or human face and give the details. Only a 4K camera can do that IMO. So in that regard, the marginal higher resolution of HX2 over HX1 is not very useful to me, especially if the image is already hazy/grainy. So zooming in on a hazy/grainy image isnt going to give more details.
I bought a brand new HX2B from Amazon and that has the same hazy image. So it may not be my device. Also the OP had posted the same issue back in 2017. No one pursued that post until I had the same issue and found that post after doing a search. So this has probably been an inherent flaw in HX2.
If I can see a comparison of HX2 vs HX1 under low light that shows a sharper image than HX1, then I will be convinced that it is my camera. Now IR does not necessarily mean low light. IR hit on a closer object can make the object very bright. What I mean by low lighting is like the image I have shown, taken at about 8pm in Michigan in September when there isnt much sun light. That is also the time when IR isnt very effective. There isnt enough sunlight for a bright image but it is also not dark enough for IR to be effective.
