How do I force wired connection instead of wifi
I have two wifi cameras, a IP3M-956 and an IP3M-941, that are a bit unreliable because they are so far from the access point. I ran an ethernet cable to connect them to the access point, but they continued to show up as connected wifi even after power cycling everything. So I went into camera configuration and unchecked the enable box for wifi. I assumed that would force it to use the ethernet interface, but instead both cameras went offline and I can't even ping them. I know the cameras will work in wired mode because I've configured them that way when they were new. Is there a way to force them to use the wired interface instead of the wifi?
Re: How do I force wired connection instead of wifi
Suggestion:
Go to Setup/Network/TCP-IP and change to Wired, Set to Default, Static, Save.

Hello and welcome to the Forum
Off what jack7 was saying about setting Static. Once you have your camera setup to your router it is better to keep the IP address that your router knows and your software knows what Ip address to connect to. So if you go to your camera over say on older FW with Microsoft IE at 10.0.0.218 if you have it set to DHCP next time the camera goes off line might pick up a new IP of say 10.0.0.200. Then when you try to access your camera over IE again and type in the IP that was 218 it won't load because the address changed. Setting to Static when the camera reboots, Looses connection to network or over power fail when power is restored and camera tries to connect to network it gets the ip back every time of 10.0.0.218 or what ever you have your Cameras IP set to that is what one of mine is set at...

Re: How do I force wired connection instead of wifi
I assign static addresses on the dhcp server. Anyway, that's just a convenience issue, I can easily figure out what IP address was assigned by looking at the dhcp server and finding the mac address for that camera while I'm testing. My problem is that it appears the wired interface won't become active once the camera is configured. I'm able to do the initial configuration of the camera with the wired interface, so I know it works, but then something in the configuration seems to prevent the wired interface from becoming active again.
Re: How do I force wired connection instead of wifi
Here is the issue or I am going to guess it is the issue.
In camera you have 2 network connections in a since. IP address for Eth2 in most of the cameras not sure why they didn't call it Eth0 but that don't matter. Then the second one is Wifi. However in most cases if you have both working you can access the IP for the Wifi over the Wired PORT of the camera. don't make sense to me but it don't have to. I have my 841 to test this out on my Table connected to my Switch I reset the camera and gave the Camera IP address of the Eth2 a Static IP 10.0.1.111 that I had my Switch assign. For Wifi to work you need to give the Camera the Login of the Router yet here is how I know it works this way. I don't give WIFI info to camera, I log into camera UI and go to network then tcp/ip and pick wireless. I change in drop down box to the Wifi config area not turning it on to default just so I can change IP from the 192 address that it is to a IP address that is working on my Server but not my IP of my Router or switch. I also don't give any INFO of my router to the camera for the WIFI. Only info is from a Static IP my Switch gave that did get pooled in my router however that isn't the WiFi that is over Cable...
This is old FW 841 so I bring up my IE and I type in 192.168.1.211. This Ip is off my Server DHCP pool and have 4 different POOLs of Ips on my server. When I type that IP address that I only set up in my camera as the Static IP of my Wifi I am able to connect to the Camera. How? my Server don't have WIFI? I go to my Wifi Router expecting to see the IP address added to the Pool of Ip's however it isn't even there. Here is the POINT you know it is connecting over my Wired connection and not the WIFI. I turn off the PORT on my Switch that leads to the camera and connection is longer online. Turn the port back on and refresh the camera page. Log back in and it is opening over the 192.168.1.211 IP that is set in the camera as the Static IP for WIFI. I log out, type in 10.0.1.111 and again able to connect to the same camera. This time rather then turning off the port because not everyone has a Manageable Switch, I just pull the Cable out of the Port of the Switch no more connection to camera. Try IP for what I set as WIFI no connection. Plug cable back in Refresh the page and able to log back in again. On the IP that is set in the camera as Static Wifi IP...
SO your case is little different as mine is working here on my Bench cable connected to camera.
Guess I need more info of your setup... I am going to assume, You have a Router/modem, that has a Long cable running to a Access Point that then has a Cable running from your Access point to the Camera. Your Access point is it setup as a DHCP server or you getting your IP from your router? Here is why. If it is setup that you have your system giving a IP on the other side of the Access point the IP needs to be on the same segment and needs to have access to pass though the Access Point.
So if your system is setup to give 10.0.0.2-254 and your access point is also a server that gives 10.0.1.2-254 in such anything that is on the first segment wouldn't be able to access the other. So your Access Point needs to have DHCP turned off and get the IP addresses from the Router.

Re: How do I force wired connection instead of wifi
I have an Arris modem/router that came with my uverse installation, I use it as the router and dhcp server. It's connected to an Orbi router that is configured in access point mode only. The Orbi has a cable to the Arris, and the camera has a cable to the Orbi. The DHCP server has reserved addresses for the Mac address of the wifi inteface of the camera. It doesn't have a reserved address for the wired interface of the camera. All devices on the network are in the same 192.168.1 segment.Revo2Maxx wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2019 8:25 pm

I have a camera on the bench I can work with, I will try your ideas.

Re: How do I force wired connection instead of wifi
I did this with a camera on my bench. On the IP3M-956 (non PTZ), by unchecking the wifi box and noting the IP address assigned to the wired interface, I can connect to the wired interface. The wifi interface no longer shows up in dhcp tables so it's not requesting an address. I've done this on two cameras, the config stays in place across reboots and power cycles so I'm declaring victory.
I believe the reason I had a problem with the IP3M-941 (a PTZ camera) is because I made the ethernet cable and I'm guessing one of the ends didn't get crimped on properly. I should have checked it first. Since it's snowing and cold and the cable is in the barn, I'll wait for warmer weather to confirm the same configuration will work once I get the cable fixed.

Re: How do I force wired connection instead of wifi
Ok one of the things I would check maybe.
Connect a camera even the 941 maybe to the cable the Orbi is running from. See if the eth2 port of the camera works there. It could be that the Orbi isn't set 100% for a AP mode to work. Or maybe that is the cable that might have bad end? Understand Cold. Been there done that lol. Lucky no snow here yet but it is coming and hits hard when it does lol. Have to go dig up my Horseradish still before that happens. 3 years so this year going to have more then I know what to do with lol... Stuff grows like a weed.
Anyway glad you got some going and working. Don't forget most cameras without heaters don't work well in extreme cold. If your barn isn't heated not sure how well the 941 will work in there if temps get to low. Just idea. Stay safe and stay warm.

Re: How do I force wired connection instead of wifi
The barn is not heated and I was amazed last year that it worked even when we had -30F temps. I did not try to use the PTZ functions in those conditions, but at least the camera stayed functioning.
I'm pretty sure my problem is the cable, I'm kicking myself for not testing it while I had it in the warm shop. Now I have to either take it down and bring it back in, or climb up on ladders at both ends to wring it out.
