As of Dec 2025, I was able to get GMAIL app account password to work. For your gmail, make sure you have MFA on for the account and setup a new app password. You can find help to do this elsewhere.
For my Amcrest SMTP setup, I used "Google".
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
Authentication: TLS
Connection: 587
Login Anonymous: NOT checked
Username: full google email address, including domain name (example@gmail.com)
Password: Here is the tricky part (for me anyway). You can't cut and paste. I use 1password and it would allow me to paste from 1password, but this didn't work. I found the only way for it to accept and work was to fully type in the password manually. No other method worked for me. My gmail app password had spaces. Include the spaces when you add your password.
Sender: same as Username
Attachment: either checked or not, both worked for me
Recipients: Make sure you enter the email and then click "+". Seems obvious but I missed that when first trying to work on this.
Click Save
Click Test. Fingers crossed!
I read somewhere that if you changed the parameters here, you have to reboot the camera. NOT TRUE. Mine worked fine without a reboot.
I would REALLY like to see more logging on SMTP failures. I also tried for hours to get AWS SES working. No luck
