I just tried doing what you said, and uninstalled the app, and then re-downloaded it, but I did not add in any of my cameras. And sure enough, the screen will rotate into Landscape. I added one camera, and just like you the Landscape view stopped working. So the issue is obviously not with the phone itself.

I don't use the event notification, so that would not be a problem for me if I could install an older version of the app. I just want to be able to view my three cameras in Landscape (full) view so everything doesn't look so distorted.

This is all very frustrating, because everything worked great on the older versions of the app. But after the updates to the app (after version .0048) is when the issues started.

To all who are having issues with their iPhone 6, 6S, 6 plus and 6S plus not rotating into Landscape (full) view, I figured out how to get mine to finally do it using version .0053 of the app!!!!!

I deleted the app from my iPhone 6S and re-downloaded version .0053. Then I went into the "Device Manager" of the app, and at the bottom I hit the "Add Device" tab, which brings you to the "Select Device Type" screen.

Then I hit the "WiFi Camera" tab, which brings you to the "Connection Type" screen.

Then at the top of that screen I hit the words "Add Connected Device", which appeared to be grayed out, but still worked anyway.

That brought up two choices to pick from. I hit the "P2P Setup" tab, which then takes you to the part of the app that has you either scan the QR code from the bottom of your camera, or you can enter your camera's information manually. I chose the "Enter S/N Manually" tab, and then entered all the information to set up my camera's by inputting the information manually.

By doing it this way, my iPhone 6S can now rotate into Landscape (full) view during Live View with NO problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know why this is, as the only thing I did differently was to choose the P2P method instead of the WiFi method I used before on the older versions of the app, and I entered all three of my cameras information manually. But I don't care why it is working, as long as it is!

Hopeully this will help the others who have had the issue of their iPhones not rotating into Landscape (full) view when they were in Live View.

CJ7VFR--unfortunately your suggestion didn't work for me; the only thing I can think of is this...what firmware version are you running on your camera? Mine is 2.420.AC00.11.R (build 2016-01-06); I'm a bit hesitant to load the most-recent version due to complaint about its apparent bugginess.

My camera's all have this version of the firmware: 2.420.AC00.8.R, and they have a build date of: 2015-10-16.

I have heard so many stories about people who updated the firmware and started having issues that I never do it. I knew that there was not an issue with the camera's firmware versions and the iPhones not going into Landscape mode because Landscape mode stopped working on my phone only after I updated the app to the latest version. And the fact that my iPad had/has no issues with Landscape mode, and anyone who has come into my house with an older iPhone (5S or older) or that were still running an older version of the app, have no issues at all with my camera's.

It was not until I tried setting up the camera's using the manual method, and selecting the "P2P" setup that I can now rotate my iPhone 6S into Landscape mode with no problems.

Hope that helps.

Hi Jim, Tonester,

Great news, thanks to your comments on this issue, we've finally been able to reproduce the problem. It looks like selecting WiFi Config using an iPhone 6S (at least in my test) has reproduced the issue. Selecting the P2P connection method or the IP/Domain method doesn't seem to cause this problem to occur. I've tried a variety of different scenarios where tapping a certain button doesn't seem to change the behavior of the landscape view working. It does seem to be specifically related to the WiFi Config setup method.

This also makes sense because if a user added a camera using the WiFi Config method previously, and newer app updates did not fix the issue, the issue would still remain, regardless of the updated version of the app.

The other issue is if a customer tried to delete the app and reinstall it. If they delete the app and reinstall it, but use the same WiFi Config setup method, the bug still exists within the code, so they will see the same problem.

We hope to have this resolved soon and release a new version of the app to the App Store. This will hopefully fix this stubborn bug once and for all!

Raheel--thanks for the update; however, I tried deleting the app, then reinstalling it, then adding my existing cameras back via WiFi Camera -> Add Connected Device -> P2P Setup...no dice, still won't rotate into landscape; I even tried re-adding my cameras via IP/Domain method--no luck there either. Perhaps deleting the app doesn't completely erase all Amcrest-related camera config data from the phone?

Did you try adding your camera's back in by inputting the information manually? That was the only way I was able to get my iPhone 6S and my wife's iPhone 6 to rotate the live view into landscape. After I read your reply, I went back and deleted the app from my iPhone 6S and reloaded it. Then I went thru the procedure I mentioned that worked for me (the P2P method) but this time I scanned the camera's QR codes and let the information populate the screens automatically.

And guess what? The app would NOT let my iPhone 6S rotate into landscape! So I deleted the app again, reloaded it, and did my P2P method, and entered the camera's information manually, and sure enough, my phone CAN rotate into landscape again!

Try this if you haven't already and see if it will work. I wonder if it has something to do with the camera's QR code and scanning it in. Since the app is obviously not working properly, per Raheel's reply, then maybe using the QR code and scanning it is part of the problem.

Raheel:

Thanks for getting back to us and verifying that there is something wrong with the app, and that you could replicate the problems we have been having with landscape view not working properly. Hopefully the next version of the app will be fixed, and people won't have to try and do work-arounds to get their iPhones to go into landscape view.

CJ7VFR--success! Not sure why it worked this time around--I'm pretty sure I tried entering the S/N manually the last time, with no luck; the only difference I can think of this time around--and I'm not sure how it would be a factor--is that, prior to redoing it using your suggestion I upgraded my cameras to firmware version 2.420.AC00.16.R, build : 2016-09-09. Note--I am (still) running app version 3.40.0053 (latest is 3.40.0056, released 1/3/17); should I presume that the latest version corrects the issue where landscape mode doesn't work if you add cameras via QR Code method rather than manually entering the S/N...or is it still broken in 0056?

However, I see that it still won't rotate into reverse (i.e., upside down) portrait mode--LOL, that last comment was meant to be facetious, as I know that the video will not rotate into such a view.

Hey tonester, CJ7VFR,

Great to hear as well, yes I wanted to mention now that we've gotten down to the details, it seems this issue happens on cameras that have older firmware installed. I tested the same workflow with a camera that had newer firmware and a camera that had older firmware. The newer firmware camera (on 9/9 firmware) did not show the issue, which made it difficult for us to replicate since we assumed most cameras would be on the later firmware.

However trying the older firmware (on the 1/6 version) caused the issue after using the WiFi Config method for setup. This was able to be replicated multiple times by myself, and was able to be replicated by our supplier also. We are submitting the new app for release by tomorrow, which means Apple should review it and have it posted to the App Store by late next week hopefully. Thanks again for your help in narrowing down the issue!
