No video settings can be saved. I have power cycled it, reboot it, factory rest twice.
You can't change Codec, Resolution, Bit rate, Bit rate type, SmartCodec, You also can't disable secondary stream. Every other feature on the camera works as expected but the video settings seem to be locked in as default 4k@20fps using h264. Once you disable all the Smart features you can see other frame rate options but can't save them, I can't even downgrade to 1080p.
Only thing I have done was open the camera and install an SD card, tomorrow out of desperation I plan to remove the SD card incase in some bizzaro world that is causing problems.
I seem to be able to find zero information on this camera any place and I guess I shoot myself in the foot buying a new camera that I am guessing has not been out very long. Support's answer was power cycle the camera which well did nothing. I have tried changing settings from the web page, from the Amcrest surveillance app on the PC, on Android, and on IOS.
Pretty disappointed.

Re: (IP8M-VB2896EW-AI) CAn't save any video settings.
I have been eying this camera for little while. I have asked a while back about functions and different things about how it works with it's IVS and things like that. Never heard back anything and because of last year buying a DVR after asking questions and not getting answer I thought I was buying the best (in a since it is) however I would have been happier with the model down from this with double the ch's seeing the issue was at the time I bought it there was very vague wording about the device on it's FPS. 15fps for my 7108 vs 7fps for the 5116-ai come to find out that was only for 8mp and non of my analog cameras are over 5mp and they both work same fps with 5mp not knowing that and feeling little let down I haven't bought the 2896EW-AI. It is on my to buy list. Last year I did get the 4216E-AI NVR and the 7108-ai DVR.. My move for this camera is the 5x zoom to replace a 10x zoom 2mp camera that is one of my main cameras and wanted to know what the FOV between the full out to the zoomed in. Also not being able to lower the Encoding isn't very good seeing Not sure what it would be like in my area seeing I use my 10x TVI 2mp camera in full time color. Also has a Case heater and is kind of a must for my area..
I am not sure if you have looked for the FW on the Page of FW's however I would start there seeing you said you Reset the camera and no change I am going to guess there is a Corrupt software install.. Maybe flashing the FW again could solve it.. DL the manual some time ago when I was asking about it and looked up Res data

Re: (IP8M-VB2896EW-AI) CAn't save any video settings.
Another way to change those video settings is with an Amcrest API command. See section 4.5 in pdf at
https://support.amcrest.com/hc/en-us/ar ... TP-API-SDK
Another thing you might do is to try using Import/Export in Web UI System Settings to see how it reacts.
Specification Sheet and User Manual links are included in the Amazon listing for your camera.

Looking at that section and looking at the whole Document I only see one method that Accepts Post the rest are all GET's for returning data not changing.
But these results of its capacities show I should be able to get 30fps

Re: (IP8M-VB2896EW-AI) CAn't save any video settings.
To change camera video settings, try "set encode config" in section 4.5.5
See the link I gave you for Specification Sheet. It tells you what fps works for a resolution.
Video
Compression H.265/H.264
Video Frame Rate
Main Stream: 3840 x 2160(1fps – 15fps), 2688 x 1520(1fps-
25/30fps)
Sub Stream: 704 x 576 (1fps-25fps), 704 x 480 (1fps-30fps)
Stream Capability 3 Streams

Re: (IP8M-VB2896EW-AI) CAn't save any video settings.
Thank you I did miss that I was looking for the normal Post or Patch for API and not a GET. The result was error, I played with some of the other API to make sure I wasn't messing things up and I could change channel name but still not change any video settings. I see a single amazon review that mention video settings changes and thats a person whom changed it to 1080@30fps so clearly we should be able to change it or that person is just a fake review.
I called amcrest support and they suggested I replace the ethernet cable
, after I explained that a bad network connection would not limit itself to only specific settings while allowing other settings to be changed, they did provide me with the firmware that comes factory I applied it and got the same results. They said they will send this to development but if they are anything like the company I work for that could be days.
At this point I am not sure if I should risk just keeping the camera or return it and by another one of the same to see if mine is just messed up somehow.

Re: (IP8M-VB2896EW-AI) CAn't save any video settings.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXssJpdeShE Here is a screen capture of the issue, first I show I can indeed change some settings, then I try to change 3 separate settings first FPS, second Resolution, 3rd snapshot settings and then I wrap up buy showing success changing other settings.
Also when I looked at the box to see how many amps at 12v it draw its clearly stats 4k@30fps on the box. I am missing a few cars passing the ones I should catch as they are speeding and are the ones that would hit children because who cares about residential speed limits right? Human have the ability to really suck sometimes.

Re: (IP8M-VB2896EW-AI) CAn't save any video settings.
Just a thought here.. I would Reset the Camera back to Factory. There seems to be something in the Settings from your Video that are not right on the Encoding screen. So you show that you can Enable things like Amcrest Logo, and Save and that works Disable and that works that is because that page has nothing on it that isn't wrong.
When you go to the Encoding page and try to enable the hidden message it isn't the message that is failing to save there is something in that page that is wrong and won't save. I am not saying that it is something you have done, I am saying that there is something that is wrong and because it is wrong the page won't save...
Don't try to Reset from software off the WebUI. Try the Reset from the camera. I think there is one on the bottom under a cover. Press and Hold until that reset starts.
Also if that don't work. DL and install the FW for the camera even if it is the FW that came with the camera. It wouldn't be the first time I have had corrupt software on a camera from new... I know you have but I would try again. Also Try with different port from what is connected and different cable just for good measure as well..
Also in the Video there is something strange that in the Encoding main is h264 and sub is h265 I mean I have some cameras that I run that way because it isn't stable with main in 265 however I normally have it in h.264h..

Re: (IP8M-VB2896EW-AI) CAn't save any video settings.
Your the MAN resetting from the camera worked, I reset from the web ui twice once with amcrest on the phone at their request. interestingly enough it still had main at h264 and sub at h265.
Re: (IP8M-VB2896EW-AI) CAn't save any video settings.
Glad to hear the Reset worked. Personally I would keep a good eye on the device. I personally have never had one that started up with 2 different Encode modes from factory.. Maybe next month I will get one for my Birthday lol. Had a lot of things this year just like the last couple years going on so might not be as soon as I hope. But I have been eying that camera for a while, and is on my list of things to add to my Family of Amcrest devices..
Thanks for the update
