So, since i added new camera t on the network, over the 8 limited of this NVR; I placed an order for a new NVR 5216 is on the way.
can i transfer all the pre recorded videos over to the new hard drive?
I'm assuming i could after the new NVR has formated the hard drive and set up the file system.
Does the new device support samba? is there any wat to connect to the NVR drive without removing it and using a seperate harddrive interface?

Re: upgrading NV4108 to NV5216
Don't know never heard of anyone doing such a thing..
I know that moving a HDD over from 1 system into another at times might keep the data as it was.. However that isn't always the Case because 1 system might be running a Different File format then another because it might be running Linux 3.6 and the other might be on something different or might be codes to mount the drive in a different way.. I am not sure if I have ever had a Working Migration from any of my Devices... Out of Habit I will Format a HDD before Removing it from 1 system and install it in another and again first thing I will do is go to HDD format screen and Format the HDD before doing anything else...

Re: upgrading NV4108 to NV5216
Pure speculation here but if the NVR software just sees a /dev/sda1 formatted with ext3 then you might be able to shift it over. At worst you'll get an unrecognised file format error or similar, as long as it doesn't try and format the media if it sees something unrecognised you can give it a try.
Re: upgrading NV4108 to NV5216
Agreed...
It was just a thought... I’m going to keep both nvr for a while.
Having 4K to the big screen tv should be nice.
Now to but a wireless mouse for the unit.
Any suggestions?

I have used a Logitech and Microsoft Mouse wireless mouse on some of mine... They worked without issue.. Mind you they are older units so newer Tech I couldn't really say..
