SMD by device on NV4208-EI

Hello,

I recently upgraded my NVR to an NV4208-EI for the AI features and the ability to view video from a web-page without plugins. I have four cameras, all Amcrest IP5M-1173 bullet cams. They're old enough that the cameras themselves do not have any built-in AI features.

I believe that the NVR is capable of doing smart motion detection (SMD) in the NVR itself even without SMD being specifically supported in the camera. I have enabled SMD on the NVR for all 4 channels, and have no other AI features enabled. It is set up to record motion events 24/7.

So here's my question. If I leave motion detection enabled on the cameras then when I view recordings (from the web interface or using Surveillance Pro), the status bar shows yellow motion detection events for every small motion. I assume it's showing the motion detection flag from the camera itself, which is not smart but triggers on anything.

What I'd like is to only see yellow motion recordings based on the NVR SMD. I tried turning off motion detection on the cameras themselves, thinking that this would then only show the NVR SMD motion events, but then I get no motion events flagged at all.

I am able to go into the AI interface on the NVR, go to smart search, and search for SMD events and it does find them appropriately. But why doesn't it show up as a yellow flagged motion event in the playback mode?

So one reason so many don't like smd, not because it don't work but because it captures everything motion. Then user needs to filter out the junk. Best to use Ai to search your smd events and not worry about play back window. For me and my Ai cameras I use IVS and no extra marks only IVS, on some cameras I record full time and ivs and enable motion with no recording for it, then can filter out extra events from search of vehicles. Normal IVS I will get 7 to 20 events a day, doing search for vehicle in my motion area will result in 300 cars that went by. Use this normally to find extra footage from event that might have been missed on another camera events that I don't get notices from but I do want them from this camera, 7 to 20 better then 300+ some days more then 509 cars go by. Also backed up in Blue Iris but different topic lol.
