There are reports of successfully updating Amcrest NVR's (and cameras) using Dahua firmware. Many (but certainly not all) Amcrest devices are just rebranded Dahua and otherwise identical hardware.
See this post... (NS4116 updated with Dahua firmware - fixed to support Reolink cameras)...

Of course there is a risk doing this. However, if you were thinking of sending it back/replacing it anyway, probably worth trying. Just research to see if others had success with the same model.

Kind of Funny Really.. I looked over some of them FW updates trying to update some of my Own Dahua Devices that I own and seen there are 10 devices that show new FW however they are not new just date put in the database is new or something because out of the 10 devices 2 of them I was able to get a FW to run all others said Fail,, Anyway on the 2 that ran both of the system come back as still being one from 2013 and the other is 2015 and while I didn't look at what build Day they were I know the one in 2013 for sure is the same one 2015 may or may not because I didn't write it down and did look at anything other then Year but they both look the same and feel the same OUT DATED lol..
Then May want to use Caution if your Device is in warranty I don't think upgrading or trying to upgrade to something outside Amcrest is a good idea.. 1 Main reason is if it happens to Update you might Lock out the ability to Upgrade inside Amcrest.. IT might take your Amcrest Device and with CODE change the ability to Flash in a New Amcrest Update... Also if in Warranty if it bricks your Device and they look over Device Logs Through Telnet access that might still be active even if Bricked to you and Me They could see that it was Flashed with something outside of Amcrest and Send it back to you without Repair or Replacement.. I am sure Amcrest don't do this but I know other companies have in the past Denied replacement or repair do to customer abuse ...
For me Biggest issue is if it happens to Lock you out of the device because Dahua FW turns your Amcrest Device into a OEM non named device if there is any Flaw or Bad code that later is found to open a Backdoor or other issue there is no Recourse.. Need help and they ask you for FW version and Software Version and you tell them something that is outside Amcrest you might get denied support..
