NVR End-Of-Life surprise

Post by patric »

My Amcrest NVR was working without a hitch for a year before it suddenly wasnt. The NV4108E-HS was accessed exclusively with the built-in web interface, until one day the live and playback images were all replaced with "Please login first!" The fix sounded simple, just re-enter all the passwords for the cameras, as Amcrest support suggested.
No go.

I could see from the green timeline bars the cameras were still recording. Of course, its an older NVR that requires IE compatibility if you want any of the useful features to work, and I learned the hard way that upgrading the firmware in cameras of the same era will break a lot of functionality in order to banish Active-X, but the firmware on the 4108 hadnt been touched in a year.

After several rounds of basic back-and-forth with Support, I was called by a technician who didnt have any of the previous two-and-a-half weeks of troubleshooting in front of them. Once I got them to call back with the support ticket background in hand, the explanation was that the NV4108E-HS was too old for the web interface, and even installing Amcrest Surveillance Pro wouldnt work. The closest thing to a solution was to install a version of ASP that was so old that the interface couldnt fit in a modern computer with a 4K screen, and what text and controls you *could* see were microscopic.

Now im sure any security camera manufacturer understands that a fair amount of their customers access their cameras remotely, and that the NVR itself isnt always handy to fiddle with if something goes awry. My 4108 is hundreds of miles away, and I wouldnt have trusted it to fulfill its mission if I had known that the company would suddenly regard it as e-waste.

Sorry you are having issues. While you said hundreds of miles away how are you trying to access your NVR? I ask because I am still able to access my HS NVRs using Edge in IE mode without any issues? While I also have other NVRS like the 4216E-AI, 4216-E1, 4108E-A2, 5232E-16P and many others I can still access my 4108E-HS and my 4116E-HS local and remotely. That is access and playback stored footage as well..

Exclusively with the built-in web interface. It worked for years, until it didnt. Support: NVR "too old."

Yeah that is something different then being "too old" So here is what I would do, Bring up your Browser and clear the cache for the system.. Don't get me wrong there are times that my HS gives some crazy issues, Like PTZ menu for my PTZ cameras the NVR says that I have to be on the main screen or something I don't remember now lol But I log out and log back in and issue is solved most times. If keep saying it after logging back in I will just Reboot the NVR and that normally cures it..

So most of my cameras on this NVR I am recording motion on main channel and full time on Sub.. In picture below you can see live view and in second picture I added in some playback. You will notice that my PTZ is showing 1220 that is off motion event where others are playing back off sub channel feeds.
