NV5216E-8P jumpy playback

Post by lmolter »

I just upgraded from an NV4XXX NVR with 4 cameras (it's been running for 5+ years WITHOUT ANY ISSUES) to an 5216E-8P. Aside from the fact that two cameras out of the 4 refused to be seen, the recording playback of the other two is jumpy. On the NV4XXX it was smooth. I would suspect that this is a configuration issue somewhere, but I don't know where. I also installed a new WD Red 4TB drive, if that makes any difference.

I bought the NV5216 so I could remotely access the NVR while on vacation, but so far I've had so much trouble with cameras and remote operation that really disappointed. I'll post more about the remote operation in a different thread.

So I can't say for sure what is going on I can only guess.. With me owning a few NVR's I am going to go off real world thoughts about things and my system and why you might have issues with your current system...

So. With my older system I can connect a camera that is setup for wrong type of streams and the NV4108E in my case will pull the streams in adding the cameras stream 2 as main even though on the camera it is second stream. That is 1 Issue that you might be having

Second Issue is that you might have your NVR setup to Auto h.265 and if that is the case most older cameras will fail to work because they don't support the h.265 modes...

Third issue might be that again your setup for h.265 Auto and the cameras that are working will work in h.265 however the protocol is not a very stable system in older cameras.. So when it is working and you have jumpy playback it is because of that issue..

Next could be Encoding issue. Might need to up the Bit Rate and Lower the FPS. I personally work most of my cameras at 22 for main and 18 to 15 fps for sub on 90% of all my cameras that support faster FPS.. Others if like my 8mp only supports 15 then I run at 15fps and 4096 to 8192 depending on the recorders ability. My 4216E-AI NVR I setup my 8mp on h.265 and 2048 at 15 fps..

SO in the end I would double check your cameras Encoding and NVR also to make sure it isn't setup for Auto h.265 if it is I would uncheck that..
Be Safe.

Ah, some really good points to look at. <addendum> The choppiness is only via the web interface (I only use Chrome). I have 500 Mbps internet. When directly connected, playback is smooth. But since the direct HDMI connection is only temporary while testing and configuration, normal use will be through a browser.

Yeah think the issue is Chrome..
I would try edge and try this..

Bring up edge, click top right 3 dots, go to settings, then Default Brower, (You are not setting up as Default and I wouldn't if it asks just say NO) However in that box area at the bottom there is a Load in IE mode. Click the Add, Then enter the IP address for your NVR, Then save. Now click new tab, then enter the Ip address, Then it will bring up in IE mode, It will ask you to more then likely to install forget what it is right now but same option needed to run in IE browser your just using Edge to run IE.. Once you have it there will be a new line and it will have a box trying to tell you to run in Edge just do the IE and ignore edge lol.. I think you will see it running better in there..
