DVR P2P remote access - lost connection.

Post by Mtn888 »

I have a 720p 8 channel DVR, ethernet connected, I normally view remotely from another location. I use P2P S/N connection.

Last week, while viewable, in the local network device list it appeared in 2 lines:

AMDV7208-S3
SN: (blank)
IP:10.160.x.xxx

AMDV7208-S3
SN: AMR109xxxxxxxxx
IP:/64

I'm assuming the 2nd listing is the P2P viewable listing.

Now that the DVR is NOT viewable remotely, it is only showing the first listing, with no change to the info. It just shows the IP address which has not changed.

So the 2nd listing, with the serial number, and IP:/64, is missing in the local network device list. I assume that is why I cannot see it. It is still connected by ethernet and shows in the device list as the first entry without the S/N.

There have been no resets or changes to the modem, I'm not sure if the ISP IP address has changed or not but I've never had an issue with this system going off line and the ISP said the IP changes sometimes every 24 hrs.

The only other changes this week have been I have someone there who added a couple of cameras for me. And we did a power cycle twice this week. Nothing on the router has been changed. No reboot, no change in network name or password.

In the same way, one of the new IP cameras added earlier in the week went offline (IP4M-1051) . It still appears in the device list with S/N and no changes in appearance. Also ethernet connected.

Oddly, another amcrest IP cam (IP2M-841W-V3) which has been connected for years, remains connected and viewable.

So 2 devices became invisible while still connected on the local network, and one remains viewable.

The only other change is the person on site is connecting a lot of things like their phones, watches, laptops.

So it's almost like the person there would have reset the camera and DVR and they would have a new password but I don't think that would have happened and the fact that the DVR appears differently on the network (no P2P listing now) is I believe a clue to the real issue. The person there is an employee but I really doubt they would have reset anything as they know I'm also somewhat tech savvy and that would be a serious violation of trust and so far there's been nothing of that nature. I may ask that person to reset the IP cam that's offline and see if that brings it back online. I'm hoping once tech support opens I can find out more if any changes have been made with the devices.

With the IP cam, once I'm connected remotely I can change the password. Is the same true for the DVR? So if I have him reset it to get back online I can then remotely change the password? Google says yes it's possible.

I just spent an hour on the phone with the ISP and they don't know what made it no longer viewable and checked all the logs and don't see any changes other than the WAN changing but that's normal and has never caused a loss in connection.

Thanks so much for reading, let me know if there is anything I should try. Thanks.
