AMDV7204 - unable to see live feed on iphone when out of wi-fi

Post by justkid »

Hey guys. I've had some issues with this unit in the past, but about four years ago some nice tech set everything up perfectly and it's been working since.
Now I got new router, can watch the live feed when on my home wi-fi ( if I connect via IP/Domain/DDNS and inserting the IP manually 192.168...etc), but there is no connection when i'm out of the house.
Last tech tried to get it working by deleting old device, and add new by doing --DVR/NVR--P2P Connection -- QR code scan and then Name Login Password - but it fails to connect.

I do remember that to connect to live feed before, when I'm out of home network, the IP showed some different number. Yesterday he spent about an hour doing the same thing over and over again...And I'm pretty sure that's not how it was done. Some Senior Tech was supposed to call me next day, but, as usually - never happened.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks.

New router only or new Network service all together?

Issue is making a connection P2P is kind of Complex and on the top very easy in the sense of how to do it.

Now I know the last thing anyone wants to do is Reset the DVR/NVR system or any Camera/Recorder however one of the things I notice with my 7204 is that I have to Reset it once every 6 months. Either because I made a change that I forgot I made and then after a few days looking at the device it isnt' working as expected and rather then jump down the rabbit hole trying to fix I just Reset the DVR..

For your DVR to work one thing I would do is make sure that your DVR is setup in the Router with the right Info. This means that it has a good IP, Gateway, Subnet Mask and DNS are all setup and that the ROUTER if setup for giving or taking away access rights that the Router has given it the right..

So lets say this. It might be something as easy as someone in the Setup of the DVR after changing the router forgot to change the Gateway if the gateway isn't correct your DVR will not have access to the internet. In some cases won't have access over the network either however that isn't always the case..

So to start with I would try this.. Change your DVR from Static to DHCP. Then Reboot the DVR. The DVR should be given a IP and gateway from your router. Then make sure if your in the USA to setup your DNS to be pointing to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

For an IDEA of what it should look like this is what my network looks like for my 7204.

10.0.0.221 DVR IP
255.255.255.0 Subnet Mask
10.0.0.1 Default Gateway
8.8.8.8 DNS
8.8.4.4 DNS2

So make sure that what ever your IP for your Device is that your gateway is your routers IP and that you have good DNS.

Thanks for such a detailed explanation. Same network, had it set up with verizon some 5 years ago and just changed the router to gigabit.
Gonna try it over the weekend, although not sure if I know what I'm gonna be doing :))

It is Really easy. So I wanted to show you how easy it is to go from offline to on line if your access is an issue with your Router. In the pictures below I have one that shows my 7204 P2P with offline message and show my router with that IP being blocked. Then I grant it access and show that the P2P is now online and the pictures follows with that IP moved into area with access.. 5 screenshots the 5th what I have my network setup as. Please note this is just so you can see what I was saying with IP and Gateway are in the same range as I stated above IP was wrong the one I first listed was one of my NVR's

Also it might be an issue with iOS right now. I am not 100% sure that iOS is working 100% looking at the pictures below if you look in your DVR's menu where I show the P2P is under Network, and it says it is online and your not able to access then there is an issue with the phone not the DVR...

Also if you want to Factory Default your system. Fastest way is VIA WebUI, In Setup, down to System then click on Default. in that window there will be Factory Default button and that will take you back to Factory settings where you will need to setup camera info, camera types if your using IP don't forget to turn the camera type to IP or it won't give you the access for adding your IP cameras..

If you need and feel it would help I could make a How to Factory Reset the 7204, with what I would do to get things Setup. Please note I personally wouldn't Export your data for import if things are not working the way you want them to right now doing so only will return same results..

Thanks again for the help. Spent quite some time with it. Solution turned out to be this - Logged into my Router, Added new IP/port to the system- went to canyouseeme.org to make sure the port is visible, plugged the IP/port into New Device on my phone and it worked. Why can't they provide clear and simple instructions? It literally takes few minutes...but the time spent for the research - hours!

Thanks Revo2Maxx

I am not sure why your having to Port forward something from your Network. P2P is like a Ninja Network connection and on my home lan here even though I pay for a Static IP I no longer have a Server connected to open ports. I have over 30 devices 10 recorders that I can access over P2P and if I go to "can you see me dot org" the answer is no. Alot of my machines pass emails, FTP even have IP log server all sorts of things going on and all my PORTS are closed on my Network from the Internet.

Remember if your outside your network and you want to access your system from a Secure connection then P2P is best way to go. There are to many bad actors out there that seem to have nothing better to do then try to hack people. I mean I have a Hosted Webserver I don't use anymore that I will have until the server expires. I get emails all the time that someone is trying to Hack it. Here is some data from that log file

April 18, 2022 3:23pm
164.92.79.203 (United States)
Blocked for MailPoet <= 2.6.7 - Arbitrary File Upload
April 18, 2022 3:23pm

Blocked for Malicious File Upload in file: popimg = evil.php

Blocked for Malicious File Upload in file: file = evil.php
April 12, 2022 5:24pm
62.197.136.223 (United States)
Blocked for Known malicious User-Agents

That server is using many different firewalls and have old user name log in attempts from all over the world. in the last month over 20 countries and sure some of them could be using VPN Some even say so and really be in the US my server just Locks the account blocks the IP and keeps going. However most home systems don't have that type of security. With all the Exploits out there right now I am happy to keep my recorders and cameras hidden from those types of attacks. Only way to get to my things are in my Network or using SN and PW. I personally don't know of any attack that has happened over P2P only local and WAN connections..
