960H4 - issues with legacy cameras
Hello - I'm having issues with the picture from two legacy cameras (already installed on the house) which are connected to my 960H4 DVR system. When I first installed the system, everything was working fine, but now it it only shows wavy static. The two Amcrest cameras that came with the system still work fine though but also have faint static through the images. I've unplugged and rebooted and updated the firmware/restored default settings as suggested for the DVR. Any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to the Forum
So I too have that DVR and a few others as well.. I am going to take a Guess that you are using a NON filtered Power supply for your Cameras and that the Noise you are seeing is DC Ripple... This could be caused by a few problems within the system as a whole...
Main issue try and move the power cord away from the cord Don't let any Non Filtered Power Supply cord touch any of the cables and don't let the power cable run over or under the back of the DVR on the cords... Way to test is take a Power supply at the connection area of the camera and connect it at the camera.. While this isn't something you will want to have running this way it is a way to test if the lines go away and most times un filtered power supply will work at this short run with no issue..
Also depending on the cameras at times the Video Ground shares the Same Ground from the Power Supply and again un filtered PSU will make not so nice looking pictures that only will get worse at night when and or if your camera has IR turns on... At times you might be able to get away with moving the cable slightly to make the picture clean up... However over time NON filtered PSU will introduce more noise into your cameras as the CAPS in the PSU get older and start to dry out...

Re: 960H4 - issues with legacy cameras
So incase I was little mis-understood... I will try and clear up some... While i say DC Ripple and that may or may not be the right terms My brain don't work as well as it once did some 40 years ago... Anyway one of the issues is some DV power supplies can produce noise that Some Cameras can Filter out and some can't I have some that have power supplies inside the camera and I can take a 12vdc Dirty PSU that would cause so much noise in another camera and plug in that one and it will be nice and Clean... Because that camera has the Filter built in... Then some don't have that and in loads of my Cameras it just has 12vdc that comes in to my Camera, and IR right next to the AV line... Some of the more costly cameras will have 12vdc Ground Ground AV on the camera where some will only have 12vdc Ground and AV and that is the ones that share the Ground for power and AV aka Audio/Video or in some cases only Video... Anyway in the ones that don't have built in filter noise can be introduced into the video lines... So then there are some Power Supplies that are built better don't need a Iron Ferrite Beads on the lines from the supply some cameras might even have them installed if they know it could be an issue...
I thought I would put a Picture of 2 of my Power Supplies that I am not using because of how I power my system off 1 power supply. The one with the Bulge in the cable has a Ferrite code that the cable wraps around to help filter out noise that could get into your video...
