2108E HS goes offline.

Post by Revo2Maxx »

So I have a remote 2108E-HS that keeps going offline the last 2 days. Anyone having any issue like this right now? My other machines are fine. All my kids are over 4 hours away from that area and I wouldn't ask them to go look. I have one of my Boys that is on Vacation and will return home on Friday and said he will stop by if it is acting up still.

I am just wondering if I should Setup and pack my 4116E-HS and send it so it is there to swap out seeing he lives 2 hours further then my other and seeing he is going to be by there. I mean worse case he just ships back the 4116E.

I have 1 camera there that isn't POE I've looked at the camera and there hasn't been any offline events for it so isn't power loss issue at the house?

I can only think of maybe HDD issue or Power supply. It has been working great for last 2 years.

So I don't have to send my 4116E-HS as I just got some news and that explains what is going on. The house was built in 1957 and has outdoor Cheap Main Power box installed from a company that seems to have major Breaker fails. Come to find out my Neighbor called me because he kept hearing something that sounds like arc welding and at the same time my light in the back yard would go off. Didn't bother him much because only happen a couple of times before he went to work so never thought about it much. Today he called me asked if he could go look in my back yard because last night he was off and heard it about dozen times. About an hour later he called me back and said there is an issue with my power box.

If you have a Zinsco box I would look to changing it out. I don't have that kind of cash right now so I had the person change out the main breaker. Doing so was kind of unsafe because the Electrician that I had do it did it with live mains (Don't do it unless you know what your doing) Because of the condition of the breaker, he said it was safer for him to swap out live then wait for Power company to pull power, 2 days from now. I am just glad the person was able to source a breaker that isn't being made anymore. 75 for breaker is kind of crazy but supply/demand you pay what you have to.

From what I was told main breaker melted from arcing and power was only going to half the house when the NVR was offline lol. Said the buss bar is still ok with only a small Pit from the breaker and I should replace before the year is over.. So yay more money out lol..

Just glad I found out about it before something worse happen seeing the Electrician says that type of box is prone to fail even worse then mine. I am guessing because no one is there and only thing that is on is the AC and some small electronics the router, NVR and cameras only 1 isn't POE. My son said he will stop by to double check things Friday seeing he will be going by there anyway.

Going to change out that NVR anyway so today I setup and shipped my 4108E with the same info that is setup right now on my 2108E-HS and when my son is there should only need to update password for POE cameras. My plan was to upgrade my cameras to 8mp. However for now, there anyway I am going to keep them 4mp or less.. So I will move the older non HS NVR there. Since the change in Breaker on the main my NVR hasn't gone offline so that was for sure the issue it seems..

So here is a Question if it was you doing this would I be better off just doing what I mention below?

When I connect to the NVR on Friday AM when my connection opens for access I might just Reset all the cameras to Factory (Besides the Wifi one) that will just connect as it is already setup for IP and current password. Then once he does the Swap all the cameras will just come online because they will be using admin, admin and then once that is done do a Password change on the NVR and sync to all the cameras? That would make it easier on my son..

Well lol. Hate it when I forget a feature from one device to another..

So it was much better then it could have been.

Anyway the 4108E works well with the cameras I have installed there, However something that I seem to have forgotten is that the device when changing the password don't offer the sync like most of my other NVR's do.

So it was little bit of work but got it done and my Son was able to box and get my 2108E-HS to fedex before they closed and should be here Monday I am hopeful for Sunday lol..

Anyway seeing it was not as easy as I thought it would be, I had my son move the network connection on the NVR to port 4 of the router that I have setup as a DMZ. I was able to connect and make all the changes that was needed. Now, I know did I really need to? No! However This NVR is older and as such of someone happen to connect to a port in the NVR they could access the cameras with default user and pass and doing so could make it so I can't access my cameras seeing I am in the NE USA and they are in the SW. So I changed them all moved the NVR back to the normal port for its use and double checked that my P2P in ASP is working so I can access the NVR as needed.
