Hello,
I'm about to order some cameras but don't really know what would be best for inside of the garage and basement of the house. So far I have picked out two of the IP8M-T2499EW for outside and one IP2M-841EW for inside because I need the PTZ for that area. But for inside of the garage and basement I was thinking IP5M-1176EW or IP4M-1055EW. What would you recommend. I don't want bullet cams.
What cameras for indoors?
Re: What cameras for indoors?
Hello and Welcome to the Forum
So I understand from your choice your looking to stay with POE.. I thought with all the high MP cameras you are looking at you might want to get a IP4M-1051 unless there is no power at all where you want to put the camera... I say this because While the 2mp 841 is a nice camera you will try to do things with it expecting more from a Higher MP camera seeing the rest are higher MP just an idea....
Then about the Rest While the 8mp Turret camera is a Nice camera please make sure you know your Viewing FOV your trying to capture... It has a 2.8mm fixed lens. Even with 4k just remember that anything over 4x in Digital Zoom isn't going to look the Greatest even at 4k... For a little bit more money I think to be honest if you were looking to get the best view for the Buck I would say get the POE PTZ outdoor camera IP2M-853E or maybe even pay little more and get the IP4M-1053E there are many features that they have the other Fixed camera won't offer... With them unlike the 1051 that does have a function of Zoom but is Digital the outdoor PTZ cameras offer Optical Zoom and will be clear way past what any of the others would do... However if your 112 degree and kind of zoomed out picture of the T2499Ew is more to your cost and as long as it won't be to wide of view....
Then for the 76 or 55... For me to be honest between the 2 I would go with the 76... Then it does offer a 96 degree FOV and a 16x digital zoom... Again with this and all fixed lens camera the best digital zoom is going to be about 4 times before it starts to degrade...
Don't get me wrong.. The 841 is a great camera... I like them I have a few myself... Just I don't have any higher MP cameras then 2mp anymore either so they are perfect for me...

Yes I need PoE in my cameras. How are the refection on the 76? I read that sometimes there might be glare. These will be indoors so I guess I don't need to worry about that as much but still. The IP4M-1055EW says it has 104 degree FOV in the features section but if you scroll down the page to the description it says 118.6 viewing angle.
The other cams you mentioned are way to pricey for me.

Another feature I noticed that is missing from the IP4M-1055EW is no micro SD slot which I would like to use in case my NAS fails. So I guess I will go with IP5M-1176EW for the basement and garage.
Re: What cameras for indoors?
Problem is there is the Ability to have Reflections with all types of cameras. Sometimes it isn't even the fault of the camera... I have a few DOME type cameras that don't have any Reflections.. Now I will say that I did have to turn one of them down from the highest MP to one lower because when it was at the highest the FOV was to wide and caused me to have Reflections off my soffit. Then the other issues is if you have the camera to close to trees or tall grasses or other things that grow can cause issues however that is with all cameras not just domes...
Why would I prefer the Dome over the Eye camera I have both and loads of all kinds to be honest... However for a Dome type camera most of them are Manual Pan and Tilt. So you can get it in the direction you want it screw it up and then fine tune the camera to the right viewing point.... Some even come with the ability to change View angle as well. Like say you have a narrow path you can turn the lens to have the WIDE FOV go long and narrow... However just don't forget the sun isn't our friend...
The Eyeball camera. I have a few ok to admit I have more then I wish.. When I go set them it is a PITA to get it set just right... You see you mount the base then you put the camera in and then the Shoulder Bracket and the last thing is the Halo Ring.. Everything is fine until you are trying to screw the Halo ring into place while holding the camera while trying to keep it placed in the right view point. Then if you don't get the Halo in all the way the camera can move easy and get out of view, then when you are getting it tight you move the shoulder bracket either in front of the camera or out of the right spot at times and most times even moving the camera out of the right view point...
Then there is nothing as easy to mount as a PTZ... Place it and it could even be facing the wrong way and as long as they are like my PTZ anyway with Endless 360 pan most of mine are 180 tilt offering either Digital image flip or pan flip to keep the image in the right area... However some cheaper PTZ cameras are not 360 and most times is just as easy to install as one that is a endless 360... Mounted on a Wall can't see though the wall anyway but some have the cameras mounted on a Parapet mount and that is great mount for best 360 view...
Then the last thing.. While I was talking about POE and I could tell you wanted to stay with them.. I just thought I might put out there that the Higher MP One might be better if you had a Power close by where the camera is going to be mounted... Most cases Non poe cameras can still work on a POE Switch. Just the Switch won't give it power.. Then there is also the Switches that are like mine that is 1/2 and 1/2. First top 6 and bottom 6 are POE and the last top 6 and bottom 6 are not poe and then I have 2 more ports that are giga ports, that go to my giga switch...

Thanks for the detailed response. Lots of things to think about.
