Video Quality

Post by 99formulam6 »

I currently have an IP2M-844E camera mounted on my back patio connected to a NV4108E NVR. I feel like the quality during the day is acceptable, however, at night time, it is not.

I have a total of 4 cameras, but I have only installed the one so far due to the video quality issue with this one. I have tried another camera in its place to see if it was the camera causing the issue, but it did not change anything. I have also tried multiple cat-5e cables to see if the cabling was the issue, and there was no change. I looked into the settings for the camera, but nothing I change affects the picture quality.

Aside from the home security aspect of having the cameras, I am also dealing with raccoons and opossums (which is why the trap is there), and with the quality like it is, you can only make out some sort of blob in the trap if something is caught. If I walk outside, it is possible to see I am there, but making out any facial details is not possible.

For a 2MP 1080P camera with an advertised range of up to 98' for night vision, I would think that the small area of my patio would be easily seen on video

Hello 99formulam6 ,

Try adjusting the view of the camera in such a way that the IR Leds' dont reflect out of the glass window. I think it might help.

I tried that and it did not work. I also have added another camera on the front eave of my home to cover my driveway, and it is absolutely horrible at night. You could make out that a person is there, but it is so blurry/fuzzy that there is no way you would be able to see who it is.

I do not understand. During the day, they are great. At night, horrible. I have read the manual, checked settings and not having a good picture at night does me no good.

I have the encoding setting as H264, 1080P, 30 fps, VBR, image quality 6, bit rate customized. This is the setting for all three cameras, and only the one above the front door has an acceptable image. Camera conditions are all the same; 3D denoise is enabled, backlight off, scene is auto, day/light is auto.

This stuff costs a lot of money, and if someone were to come to one of the cameras with the crappy image, I would not be able to identify them.

Try this: Go to Configuration and choose the Night profile. Set the Exposure to Manual and the Shutter to 1/3. Try a different shutter speed if 1/3 doesn't work for you.

Under Profile Management, be sure to use a Schedule.

I did this on my 841 camera and it seemed to help quite a bit.

I do not see any options to change the exposure on the camera. I see where I can select night, but no exposure or shutter speed.

I'm assuming you are logging directly into the camera itself (via browser)--now granted you indicated that your camera is a 844E...on my 841B there is an Exposure setting (Setup -> Camera -> Configuration, then on right-hand side there is a dropdown list for Exposure)--you have to select Manual in the dropdown list for Exposure in order to see the Shutter settings--however you have to set Anti-Flicker to Outdoor in order to be then able to select a 1/3 speed setting for Shutter, as the Shutter speed settings are more limited if you Select Anti-Flicker setting to 50 Hz or 60 Hz.

Definitely do not see those options. I am logging in via ddns to the NVR where I can control all the functions of the NVR and cameras. In the camera section, I do not have the options you are describing. I see each IP of the cameras that the NVR has assigned, but I can not access the camera directly without going through the NVR. If there is a way to just log in to the camera, I do not know how to do it.

I am not familiar with the IP2M-844E camera (settings)--is it not possible to access the camera directly via a web browser? I can access the camera settings--including the ones in question in this thread--on my IP2M-841B by logging into it via IE on my home PC (connected to my internal home network).
