Use IP8M-MT2544E with IE

Post by patric »

While not a fan of Internet Explorer, Its currently a lesser evil than Google Chrome but this very promising camera doesnt want to play with IE. There are too many privacy problems with Chrome for me to trust my security cameras with. and while id prefer the more secure Firefox, IE seems to work with most security cameras.

The instruction manual says: "Desktop Access Setup: This camera features the latest in JS technology which allows you to access your camera via a wide variety of web browsers including, Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and other mainstream web browser via your PC or Mac computer." I immediately turned off DHCP and cave the camera a static address, which when browsed with IE returned the message "IE no longer supported. Please use Google Chrome."

Im evaluating this motorized zoom turret to compliment my other IP8M-T2499E turrets, but having to put Chrome on my system just to get a picture could be a dealbreaker for this model. Is there a workaround?

You don't have to use Chrome or IE. Use Firefox since you said you like it. Read the user manual quote in your post above for an explaination. You can probably even run that camera web UI in your phone browser.

If you are referring to Java, I have that installed, so what am I missing?
FWIW I can get a picture while in the IP Config utility.

Suggestion:
Type your camera static IP address into Firefox and Enter. Your camera Web UI should appear. You could put the page in Bookmarks for later use.

Firefox didnt work earlier so I stopped checking it (my mistake). Now it does (thank you). Probably didnt help that the IP Config tool points to IE as its default browser. Interesting that the setup on this cam has settings for audio.

Try changing your default browser to Firefox in Windows settings. Then IP Config should go to Firefox. At least that's how it worked in plugin web UI.

It is, and it doesnt. Getting the camera to open up in Firefox is most of the battle so Im good with that, thanks!

A Postscript: IP config is now following my default browser (Firefox) but different cameras of the same model are either showing a camera image or the "Install plug-ins" nag in its place. Each time I download webplugin.exe and go thru the steps, sometimes getting results but sometimes not. Ive also noticed not all the webplugin.exe downloads are the same filesize FWIW.
