Trying to install IP3M-941B for WiFi connection

Post by thomabrown »

I am a noobie at Amcrest camera setup, but a long-time computer professional.

I have a new Amcrest IP3M-941 camera.

I am trying to get it working via Wifi to my computer (Windows 10 Pro) and Samsung Galaxy S9 phone.

I have spent 4-5 hours so far trying to get it working. I have been successful in getting it working via a wired connection, but that is basically useless to me because the place where I want to use it is not accessible on a wired basis.

The camera itself worked quite well on the wired connection. The software, Amcrest View Pro, left something to be desired. My main points of contention are:

1. Any small error in the configuration process requires starting over from the beginning with the software, and sometimes a reset of the camera.

2. Many times the app on the phone would just hang. I would not respond to any attempts to end it or go back to the last step. Many times, I had to reboot the phone, reset the camera, uninstall the app, and start over.

3. When entering data such as name of the camera, userid, password, IP address, or router password, those values are apparently not saved in an editable, re-usable form thus requiring the restarts described above.

In the latest attempt at configuring the camera and phone, I reset the camera, and used the app on my phone.
I went through the entire configuration, and at what I believe to be the final screen, I got an icon of the camera on the left and an icon depicting the WiFi in the middle. Both of these were in blue. On the right, I get an outline icon of a phone in black. The app is making a "cuckoo" sound about every two seconds, with a chime in between. The top of the screen is labeled WiFi Configuration Setup. There are no buttons to press, and tapping the icons has no effect.

After about 30 seconds, the app gives up, the screen blanks, and it displays:

There was an issue with connecting to WiFi. Please either try again, or go to Ethernet WiFi setup. That is a whole different, NON-FUNCTIONAL, can of worms.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I have had many problems trying to setup and configure my IP3M-941 camera. I've tried ethernet and it worked but was not stable, and I can't even get it to use wifi, which is why I bought in the first place. It keeps telling me that I'm not connected to wifi and I know I am, I checked it. I have been trying for over a week with no success, even contacting technical support. It does have a good image, if I can ever get this to work. I'm about ready to toss it in a recycle bin, I have more that things to do with my time than work on this. The Amcrest chat session from yesterday 1/15/2019 is 1532000025055.

If it's not stable with ethernet, it's not going to be stable with WIFI camera connection. It may be the phone or its connection. See if this helps for camera WIFI:

To go to the Web UI, you can just put the camera IP address from IP Config in the browser.
