I am not going to be using the Blue Iris for a while.
I got things hooked up, but to run and manage 8 1080P camera's, using the PC as an NVR, becomes a bit of a resource hog, about 20% of all CPU cycles, I am planning an upgrade to my PC next year. I will use this PC as a dedicated NVR, video server, NAS at that time, where 20% will not effect other things I like to do.
The software looks great, I think it could definitely be an upgrade, the playback from a PC NVR is much smoother and easier, but I have a pretty high end machine. Overall I think it is a great add on, if you have a PC you do not use for gaming, encoding, multimedia, gaming, etc...If your PC just gets used to read email and surf the web, this is a perfect addition to that environment, just have to be aware, you will be creating a 24/7 machine.

Why not to use provided for free "Amcrest Surveillance Pro" Windows App available for download? I read some user review and he was very happy with it.
At glance, it has more settings you can adjust: sensitivity settings (10 levels), something about face recognition and etc.

Re: Surveillance System Bake Off
Well my DVR gave up the ghost after just over 2 years of use. Never was truly satisfied with this DVR. Paid $120 for a Dahua HDCVI HCVR, and put the old hard drive in it. The Amcrest units are all based on Dahua engineering anyway, so decided to go to the source. The Dahua unit seems to be more feature-packed for about the same price. ONVIF, Face Detection, IVS are all included on this unit that cost me as much as a same-model replacement unit of my old Amcrest HDCVI DVR.
