I am also struggling to get my email notifications to work.
I am able to log in via the web off-site as well as through my mobile devices. But for the life of me cannot get the email function to work. I have tried every possible configuration and different mail servers, nada.
The router is a good question. If you do have the firewall enabled at the router try turning it off and seeing if it will work. I found that on my router it allow everything going out but only specific ports coming in so my settings will not stop the email traffic.
I found that Google does restrict up to 2,000 emails a day. I am guessing you are probably not hitting that limit.
One possible reason for it not to work is if the DNS is not correct in the TCP/IP setting. It should default to Googles DNS 8.8.8.8. This works most of the time but occasionally it will need to be changed to the one given by your ISP. The easiest way to do that is to change the DNS to the IP of your router (same as the default gateway). The router will then forward the DNS lookup to the ISP's DNS server.
I have a new camera and I've also been unable to get the email to work. I've tried my ISP email, and my Gmail settings, nothing. Kind of makes the point of having the camera moot (to my situation anyway).
I've checked DNS and even ran the Google DNS servers for a few days, not just for this, but to see if it was any faster than my ISP. It wasn't...
Anyway, looks like this is an issue that needs some Amcrest attention...
I've found another bug or two in the software, but that will be in a different post...
If you are using Gmail account, please make sure that 'allow less secure apps' is on and 'two step verification' is off. It comes under account settings.

Here's my problem. I need a surveillance system. I've purchased a single camera from 2 companies. They both have their good points and bad points, but I can't even complete the set up of the AMCREST camera to complete my testing. I had hoped that I'd get some help here...
