Saving to NAS by ftp or nfc - different file structure.

Post by longedge »

My network has been doing odd things and I'm troubleshooting at the moment. For example using SmartPSS PTZ control with one of the cameras selected, the command moves a different camera ?? I've gone through the settings for each camera and they are all fixed IP (192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.13 - 192.168.1.15) and my router is configured to start issuing IP's from 192.168.1.54 upwards.

Anyway I decided to try using nfc to save snapshots to my NAS due to erratic results I've been getting with ftp.

I have found that when setting up the storage destination and clicking on test, the result is always the same, "NFC connection failed". That message appears to be wrong because all my cameras are now saving snapshots as expected.

I'll have to go back to ftp though because of the crazy file structure that is created using the nfc connection, a new folder for every minute.

It would be nice if after several years of having this problem, the cameras could be made to save to a NAS using a sensible file structure. A potetnial 1440 folders being created for every day is too many!

p.s. I don't quite know why it's called nfc in the settings. To me that's a communication method used by smart phones. It should be nfs (network file system) :)

Well after spending several hours trying to decide where the bottleneck is in my network, I think it's down to one of two possibilities either the NAS is too slow or my cabling/router is past it's sell by date.

For now I've reverted to saving both video and snapshots to the mSD cards and it's all working well again.

I'll probably be fiddling around with it again tomorrow but that's it for now!!

Another day so I'm having another go at chasing down why I can't reliably save snapshots to my NAS.

The problem is worst with the IP3M-941B's so as a first step, I thought I would make sure I have the most recent firmware on those cameras :-

Hmmm.. well that doesn't help at all, apparently two versions with the same filename that is until you have actually downloaded them and see that the release date has been used as part of the extended filename for the binary file. The most recent version is 12KB smaller than the old one so yes it is different and common sense would tell me that the difference would be detailed in the change log if only there was one.

Anyway I updated both cameras to the latest version then factory reset and set everything up again.

Whatever was done to the latest version, it had nothing to do with saving files to a NAS

Yeah I updated one of my 841 to the 12-19ver then didn't find anything thinking humm no change in feeling of the camera I don't see anything added back or anything new.. Then thought maybe added fix for PT and this camera I updated never had issue so I updated the 2018 camera and down graded my 2015 camera back to the 8-19 ver still stable and the 2018 camera is still unstable even with the 12-19 so again I don't know what changed and don't see anything that was taken away giving back or any PT control over what it was so I am at a loss of what the 12-19 update fixed.
Be Safe.
