I'm using IVS and it has been working fine until just recently. The settings for recording have not changed, just the behavior of the camera. Now it rarely records vehicles or people, only empty videos of nothing going on. The empty videos occur at the frequency of daily/hourly videos of cars passing by. Sometimes it will work or catch a car exiting the recording area.
Sometimes I can see the end of a car through a tree down the road but it has long since passed the record window before the camera kicked in and started doing it's thing.
I have tried: Rebooting the camera through the web interface, Rebooting the camera via power cycling the POE switch, and recently I removed and added back the recording zones after exhausting everything else to try.
Anybody else experienced this? Is this camera dying? I can watch RTSP streams no issues and no glitching so I'm confused why the camera is bugging out on the recording.
Recording empty videos after an event
Re: Recording empty videos after an event
What camera model? How are you tripwire setup and what is your pre record setting, this going to NVR or Micro SD?
Be Safe.
Re: Recording empty videos after an event
Camera Model: Where do I find this in setup? I can only find the serial number (not climbing two stories and don't have original box)
Tripwire: I have three tripwires setup with a clear view to the road directly in front of the house in a subdivision. All are vertical tripwires (bisecting the road) and bi-directional and each has a good bit of space around it. As said in the original post this "was" working fine, for a few years.
Pre-Recording: Storage --> Record Control --> Pre-Event Record --> 5 Seconds
Record Destination: FTP (this has been working for a few years, and testing with manual login works fine). Specifically it's going to a ProxMox VM with FTP Daemon.
Note: Pretty sure the camera is running Linux. Is there anyway to SSH into the camera and look at the system logs, top, etc...?

Re: Recording empty videos after an event
Note: I've checked the web interface logs and there is nothing standing out. Buuuuttt, I have no idea/visibility to the Linux kernel running this thing. I cannot check to see if there are file errors, memory issues, cpu usage problems, nothing... Totally blind.
It's very frustrating.

Re: Recording empty videos after an event
Do the cameras use "passive" FTP?
Re: Recording empty videos after an event
Problem appears to be solved. Videos are recording normally again.
I haven't done a tcp dump on it yet but I suspect it was trying to open a passive FTP port and couldn't do so. Recently I moved from vmware to proxmox virtualization and I put a lot of my services onto a docker server, including ftp. And here is where I suspect the issue came from. Not vmware or proxmox nor docker, it was me setting up the firewall on my cisco switch to accommodate the move. Only allowed ftp control and data through on the camera network. My best guess is that it was timing out trying to open a passive ftp connection and "maybe" would fall back to standard ftp at some point. Don't know for sure.
I like to know how things work under the hood. Helps a lot to troubleshoot. My assumption concerning the weird results (empty videos or rarely catching the end of a car leaving the video) is that this was all that was left of the video sequence marked for recording and the rest had already fell out of the video buffer and was beyond retrieval by the time passive ftp timed out.
