Record %100 to NAS
My last camera was a vivotek. Was a PTZ with only 640x480. Soon as I saw the video on the Amcrest it was very nice. But I want to record 24/7 on my NAS system into a special folder but then only keep 3 weeks worth and delete the old stuff. Do these Amcrest cameras get firmware updates often or features like that added? I have the 1920 HD PRO model, which is a simple PTZ to watch my from door and just want to record 24/7. I have heard I may be forced to use Blue Iris or try another camera manufacturer, but I kind of like these Amcrest cameras and will eventually get a whole bunch of them for around the house for security. There have been break-ins around town. Usually just bi-cycles and small stuff, but I want to be safe. And pointers, I'd love to hear them. So far so good.

Hello opentoe@gmail.com ,
We definitely do release firmware upgrades periodically for adding features and fixing bugs. Since the camera is recording in 1080P resolution it will take much more space than 640x480 resolution camera. You can try lowering the resolution to save more space. For this you can login in to the cameras web interface from PC and go to Set Up > Camera > Video.

Ok, this camera is new to me but camera options, features and usability are not. Why is this thing recording in a proprietary DAV file on my NAS for native playblack? Does Amcrest want customer's to only use their software to play back video? If so, then I have to return to Amazon and try another. A simple choice of MP4, MKV, MOV would of been nice. I don't need to lower the resolution. I have 35tb server with lots of empty space right now. I will not be forced to convert or use a proprietary file format. Even my cheap 8 year old Vivotek camera recorded in MP4 natively.Melvin wrote:Hello opentoe@gmail.com ,

HELP! Thank you, I could be wrong and hope I am wrong about all this.
And this HDPRO camera is a beautiful camera. I'm testing camera's now, so when Ifind the right camera that can do the basics, I'll need to go out and buy about 10-12 of them for home security. I was so happy to see such a nice looking PTZ with features, but some of the things like not being able to save video as other file formats is pretty bad. I'd love to stick to this brand, because it was a breeze to setup and the picture quality is excellent.
DAMN!

Hi,
The file format for recording is something we will be working on. Thank you for choosing Amcrest and we do listen to customers feedback for product improvements.

I also saw you (Amcrest) makes Blue Iris software camera management. I used the demo version along with my HDPRO camera and got almost what I wanted. Was able to record directly to MP4. Was able to record to my NAS shared folders and was able to set a cutoff when to cycle and purge the old video. I preferred the Windows service method, but that way it didn't work. The Iris server has to be running a machine for everything to work. I can probably get away with the way it is now, but it takes lots of CPU power just to manage the 1 camera. I may keep this one just to use on my window sill and for users that put night cameras in front of windows, turn the infareds off!! We can't see them with our eyes, but they sure are bright on the video.Melvin wrote:Hi,

Yea, I was able to change to recording codec and it went from DAV to MP4 I think. Don't know if that's a bad thing or a good thing yet.
