Pro HD 1080P IP2M-841B - sucky ftp and other stuff

Post by canuck902 »

I recently purchased a Pro HD 1080P IP2M-841B. While I like the pictures this camera takes, overall I'm not sure I like this camera.

Under Event/Video detection - wish could select a number of snapshots - say 10 for example.

Under Storage/Destination/FTP - the FTP is not working correctly; instead of going to the root of the directory specified, it goes to the ftp user home directory and works from there. This is wrong.

Example: if I set it to /nas/cameras , then it should record in /nas/cameras .
Instead it goes to /home/usernamehere and creates /nas/cameras there, and then writes its folders/files in /home/usernamehere/nas/cameras .

Also FTP test produces a fail write permissions error, fix that please.

File names like this are just awful: 15.14.51[M][0@0][0].jpg
Why not something like this: devicename_datetimestamp_sequencenumber_M.jpg or devicename_datetimestamp_sequencenumber_R.mp4 ??
No need for lots of dots, brackets, etc. And by device name I mean the device name entered either on Network/Hostname or on the System/General page.
So example: insidecamera12_201802251647_0001_M.jpg
This is a nicer cleaner format, and is quite helpful for your UNIX and Linux based customers.

Also, why dynamically create all those folders and sub folders? What a mess!! Why not simply dump the images and videso into the one folder specified in FTP or NAS setting. So for example I set /nas/cameras and that's it! If you feel there is a need for dynamically created subfolders then make that a tick-box configurable option.

Many of the web buttons simply do not work, clicking them will cause them to change colour but that is as far as it goes. Please remember a significant number of your customers are UNIX and Linux users, and would use browsers like Firefox and Chromium on Ubuntu Linux for example. Not everyone is a Microsoft user.

The video plug-in simply does not work either. And consider migrating the browser video plugin to a format that the various browsers support natively. I have no trouble using my Foscams in Firefox on Ubuntu.

I had intended on buying a few more of these, but not so sure now. Other than that it's a 'good' camera I suppose. Awesome picture quality.
