Overlay - Monitor vs. Preview

Post by pdxrealtor »

Can someone explain the difference? I would like to privacy mask a couple of areas. I would like to be able to monitor in real time without the mask, but in playback mode I would like the privacy overlay to be applied.

This would defeat the purpose of the Privacy mask.

Many areas in the world have laws about what you as the camera owner can record. One example would be using a camera that records other homes across the street while it records your homes front area. If that recording happens to record a window in another home where from time to time someone inside that home walks by that window naked. You could be committing a crime or could be sued civilly. Your recordings could be used as evidence.

So, adding Privacy masks later would not save you from that happening

Note: Just because you own and operate a camera does not entitle you to point it anywhere you want. Depending on the laws where you live.

Good info.

So... what is the difference between Monitor and Preview?

Monitor = screen of device viewing camera
Preview = Viewing live video in real-time from the camera.

These references seem to be more of a language translation issue from Chinese to English.

Here is the Users manual and you can do a find on both Monitor and Preview to see what I mean:
