Re: ONVIF authentication not working in newer cameras
@ckchessmaster Hi there, I just registered on this forum to say thank you so much! I was so confused as to why Shinobi was not finding my camera but it seems you've already gone through the trouble of figuring out this weird solution, many thanks.
Re: ONVIF authentication not working in newer cameras
Hello everyone. I just wanted to share the solution that fixed this issue for me. It was embarrassingly simple.
I had to update my camera's time settings to match my NVR's time. My NVR updated with Daylight Savings Time, but my camera did not, and that ended up being the source of all my troubles. Apparently ONVIF authentication for some cameras includes comparing the camera's time to the time of the device trying to connect. If the times are too different, it does not allow access.
Well, my NVR stopped recording this camera's footage recently - turns out the motion detection wasn't working. When I rebooted the camera, the camera couldn't connect to the NVR at all, no matter what I tried. No amount of factory resetting, changing firmware versions, trying different ports, or anything like that did anything. Only disabling ONVIF authentication fixed it, like some others experienced. My camera could simply no longer connect to my NVR like it was able to before. Turns out the time changed recently due to daylight savings time. I connected to the camera using ONVIF Device Manager (ODM) and got Wsse errors, which has to do with the whole time validation thing. I updated the camera's time and it immediately fixed the issue.

Re: ONVIF authentication not working in newer cameras
none of my cameras have an onvif area, only a place to disable auth. you'll need to use the ODM tool to create ONVIF users, you cannot use the UI in some models: https://github.com/blakeblackshear/frig ... 5375947423Revo2Maxx wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 1:11 pm @ckchessmaster May want to look in your camera as there should be a ONVIF area that can be turned on and off. Maybe it was turned off or maybe your camera needs the admin to make ONVIF user however normally it is there by design with the ability to turn it off if the End user wanted.

Personally using a 3rd Party Tool to change the systems setup is at the Risk of the Owner.. I Personally wouldn't use anything that isn't related to the Manufacture for security reasons.. ONVIF user in most cameras is setup for Admin accoount for a reason.. So yes some older cameras admin and ONVID is one of the same.. On other cameras there is a onvif user that can be changed to something different then the admin account but again changing the security only adds Risk to someone you don't intend to gain access..
Be Safe.
