I've been trying to connect some PoE cameras (IP3M-956E) at a 2nd building on site to the NVR (NV4432E) using two Cisco switches to trunk the connections between the two buildings (distance too great for direct connection). I set up a dedicated VLAN on the switches just for the cameras and connected one of the NVR's PoE ports to the local switch and the 2nd building's cameras to the remote switch. But the NVR wouldn't recognize the cameras.
I confirmed the cameras and switch configurations were working by changing the VLAN on the remote switch camera ports to the management network VLAN and accessed them from my management computer. The NVR also then recognized them and I could add them to the device list.
But I must keep the management network/IP subnet isolated from the camera network (NVR's PoE switch IP subnet) per local policy. So simply routing the remote cameras to NVR's management port is a non-starter.
Is there any way to "extend" the NVR's PoE ports to a remote location via VLAN on trunked switches? Or maybe, since it's an embedded Linux OS, create subinterfaces on the management port to access the PoE switch's IP subnet?
