no access to web cam after power failure

Post by porkypig »

hello all
was very satisified with the following

Amcrest UltraHD 5MP Outdoor POE Camera 2592 x 1944p Bullet IP Security Camera, Outdoor IP67 Waterproof, 103° Viewing Angle, 2.8mm Lens, 98.4ft Night Vision, 5-Megapixel, IP5M-B1186EB-28MM (Black)

installed January 2025, worked great through all sorts of weather

had a recent power outage 4 or 5 hours and now cannot get anything out of the webcam

webcam is connected to poe switch, poe switch port webcam is connected to has green light indicating device connected but no yellow light indicating network activity/communication

poe switch uplink port has green light device connected, yellow flashing light indicating network activity/communication

router has been power cycled

I've done everything I can think of, reset button on webcam, router doesn't show any ip address associated with webcam mac id
tried mobile phone app to detect device on network, nothing found

webcam does switch to night vision when is dark enough, red led on webcam comes on, flash light shining on webcam makes red led turn off

any other diagnosing things that can be done??

THANK YOU for getting this far

Sorry for the delay in Reply.. If you are still having issues, I would try to use a different Ethernet cable.. If you are able to I would try to connect using a 3ft cable and see if you get life.. If you do then the camera has been damaged do to power surge and the camera has protected itself.. Sadly this will require a Repair from a person with the right part and tools, if you have said tools then it can be done in less then 20min.. If not something ever worked on can take upto an hour first time.. Seeing the part is 16 pins and not really that easy to access with over the counter soldering iron. A nice Soldering Station with ability to change tips would be best option for repair...

hello Revo2Maxx, thank you for trying to help
seems to be ethernet cable
poe ip cam is attached to garage overhang, i took poe switch to that location, connected poe ip cam to port on poe switch, there was power light and data light on that port
i connected the ethernet cable that was connected to poe ip cam to the uplink port on poe switch and connected that to router, no data light
i don't have ladder i used to attach poe ip cam to garage overhang, so i can't get the cam down at the moment

you didn't identify which part, sounds like the soldering option might be to replace the motherboard

CHEERS!

To be honest the first thing I check is Cable next is the Transformer in the camera seeing it is there to protect the camera.. Sometimes in ways not useful to most end users but for someone able to repair can be repaired.. However cable, then cable connections.. Then ethernet trasnsformer.. After that and at that time really would also test protection diode.. But in your case easy just cable issue.. Normally first thing to go.. Could be any number of reasons not 1 to easy pin point.. Glad you got it worked out...
