New to NVR

Post by Gman34798 »

I’m looking into my first NVR. One quick question I have is does the Amcrest NVRs that say (No built in WiFi) NOT support wireless cameras? All mine are/will be wireless. I know the NVR must be hardwired to the router, so the no WiFi notation raised a red flag.
Thanks in advance.

I think all that means is that the NVR will not connect to your network via wifi. Some other brands of NVR have wifi built in so that the wifi cameras connect directly to the NVR.

Thanks Hawkeye,
It’s my understanding that all Amcrest NVRs require a hardwire connection to the router, so WiFi isn’t an issue with this connection. WiFi seems only relevant to camera side, so with “no built in WiFi”, wireless cameras cannot connect.
I’m just trying to clarify this to make the right decision and not have to deal with a return.

Wireless cameras connect to your network and send video to the NVR. If you don't have a network, you will want a NVR with wifi and wifi cameras. Then the wifi camera sends video directly to the wifi NVR.

Thank you Hawkeye,
That clears up quite a but. I have a pretty robust network. Essentially I had it incorrectly figured that the cameras connected to the NVR. If I’m understanding you correctly, they communicate to the NVR via my network, so that clears up the No built in WiFi issue from my original post.
Thanks for your help!
