New network/router and now my Amcrest pan and tilt cameras won't connect.

Post by palmtrees »

Looking for any advice here on how to get my pan and tilt Amcrest cameras to work. Got new internet and it had a radio/router all in one so you can't select 2.4g which I thought was the problem. Got a router to hook to the radio that lets me select so I set it up so I can run the cameras on 2.4.

Followed all of the reset steps and added cameras. Tried adding with wifi and that didn't work and then tried ethernet cable/wifi and still no luck. I am stumped here. The odd thing is when I go and look at my routers page it shows two of the cameras connected. But amcrest App fails every time I try to add them. I'm stumped and any help would be greatly appreciated. I've had Amcrest stuff for 7-8 years and love it but can't seem to figure this out no matter what i try. Any and all help greatly appreciated!!!

First from running a Multi Router system myself you will want to connect a laptop or something to the router that your trying to connect the cameras to and make sure that your system is connected to the Internet.. Some routers have a ICON that says it is connected to the internet and while that can show access it don't really mean anything if there is no connection in truth..

So next thing that will need to happen is once your connected you can make a connection to the camera either on that router over a PC on the Cameras WebUI or using the APP using P2P.. IF you use the IP method of connection you will need to make sure that your connected to that Router, If your connected VIA the first router you will have to Port Forward that second router or if it was able to be setup a a Repeater then it should have no issue connecting with the first router...

So here is the main issue..

First Network connection/Router. 192.168.0.1 Gives 2-254
Second Router working as stand alone. Gives IP 192.168.1.1 and gives 2-254 if the second router is trying to give IP in range of first there will be issues. It needs to be either setup Stand alone and gives an IP of its own. OR it can be setup as a Repeater that has no DHCP and only hands out IP's from the first router...

Next and most important if router is on it's own IP , router has access to internet and your computers or phones are connected to the first router then your connection the cameras will need to be over P2P..

IF your going to access the cameras on the same network router then no issue..

Hello and Welcome to the Forum hope you found something of use so far..

Thanks so much for the reply! It's late so I can't try anything tonight but I will tomorrow and wanted to thank you for taking the time to try and help me. It looks like you've given me tons of good info!!!!

I'm not sure how to make sure the router is setup right. I do know when I went through the netgear it recommended turning off the wifi on the other but it isn't an option. It came with the internet provider and I can't access it like a typical router and like I said I think the issue with it is it switches devices between 2.4 and 5g depending on signal strength instead of being able to select like i can with the netgear. I hope I an figure it out soon I miss having my cameras like crazy!
