Amcrest, this description of sensitivity and threshold is OPPOSITE of what is stated by your staff in the General Forum. In the General forum, you say this: "sensitivity is a measurement of the amount of change in a camera's field of view that qualifies as potential motion detection, and threshold is how much of that motion needs to occur in order to actually trigger the alarm."
Your earlier post in this thread says the opposite. Could you please clarify?
Motion Detection Sensitivity / snapshot of MD trigger
Re: Motion Detection Sensitivity / snapshot of MD trigger
I get the idea of sensitivity & threshold. But what exactly are those numbers mean?
For example, Sensitivity 50 means 50% of color-covered region needs to be changed to trigger? or 50 pixels?
I set my sensitivity to 40 and threshold to 50, and MD still triggered by a single leaf drop (I purposely dropped the half palm size leaf from 2nd floor to the ground, and about 10 feet from the camera)

Re: Motion Detection Sensitivity / snapshot of MD trigger
Hello,
Sensitivity is actually directly related the pixel changes. You can try increasing the threshold to see if that makes any changes. This will really need some testing to find the right combination of settings that will match ones requirements.

Re: Motion Detection Sensitivity / snapshot of MD trigger
Suggestion: would be great to have a feature where we can flag photos as false positives and it would adjust the threshold/sensitivity settings for us (with respect to time of day too).
Re: Motion Detection Sensitivity / snapshot of MD trigger
Or at least give us the trigger number for each picture in the EXIF info of the jpg
Re: Motion Detection Sensitivity / snapshot of MD trigger
This software hiccups still exists. The sun, clouds, shadows, insects, leafs, headlights, etc will trigger a snapshot a hundred times a day. The sweet spot for those conditions I found is sensitivity 45 threshold 55. But, during the night, I can't even get a motion detection snapshot to trigger when a person walks past even at sensitivity 100 and threshold 0. I got frustrated with the false positives during the day that I only activate MD Snapshot trigger after sunset and an hour before sunrise. Even at the 100/0 setting I only get headlights and every little motion, but again no human detections as they are feet from the camera.
No matter what setting I still get false positives. I am ready to ditch the motion detection feature or switch to a completely new system. Best part is my wires are ran for any other camera set!

Re: Motion Detection Sensitivity / snapshot of MD trigger
I'll add my 2 cents on how the motion detection settings work:
* Sensistivity - This is the amount of contrast change within a detection block (I think Amcrest calls these pixels) required to trigger that block. Contrast change can be from any possible source, e.g., actual motion, lights being turned off/on, image noise, etc. This is only the first step in motion detection, and of itself, does not cause an "event".
* Threshold - The number or percentage of blocks that must be triggered simultaneously in order for the motion detection event to start.

@grizzwold could you elaborate on the colors for MD zones please?
