Mic alteration to reduce wind noise
Mic alteration to reduce wind noise
I'm using the 4k camera with the built in mic to stream my beehives on twitch (twitch.tv/beecurious). The mic works really well at picking up the sounds of the bees. But, I'm getting some wind noise that I'd like to try to reduce. Anyone have any ideas for a modification?
Re: Mic alteration to reduce wind noise
Hello and welcome to the Forum
So I know it is going to sound strange but I have heard of people that have added a covering to help reduce wind noise while it also would reduce the ability to pick up all sounds as well. It is with same type thing you would find on a Pro mic on a Camera for home recordings or the like...
Another way and not all but some of Amcrest Cameras offer them and that would be with a External Mic. This would be connected via some wires that might be along side your Eth0 or BNC cabling. Might have In put and output wires. Without knowing what model camera you have I am not able to know if your offered this option or not...

Re: Mic alteration to reduce wind noise
Just adding to what Revo2Maxx says, I have succesfully used packing foam, the type that is waffled, to make my own wind baffle in the past. Obviously it soaks up and holds water so might not be suitable for your situation but as it's free there's nothing lost.

Another option might be to do what I've done with one of my nestbox cameras. I have the camera 'looking' at a bird feeding tray. It's still inside a nestbox but I cut the side out of the box so the camera is sheltered top, bottom and on three sides.
