ipv6 and android app

Post by zeb »

Hi,

My ISP only provides me with IPv6 (And DS-lite) and I explored the option of using IPv6 with my Amcrest cameras.
  • I was able to assign an IPv6 address to the camera. Note that the DHCP option did not work, for unknown reason. The camera does not get any DHCPv6 address, either stateful or stateless. The usual SLAAC attribution does not work. That said, static IPv6 address do work and my router registers the address I assigned myself.
  • From the router I made the IPv6 address accessible to the Internet, allowing connecting to any port via TCP/UDP.
The camera is then visible to the outside world. I can connect to the camera setup webserver using its IPv6 address or a domain name pointing to that address. I can do this from my mobile phone network, which supports IPv6.
  • Now the problem is with the Amcrest View Pro Android app: I cannot connect to the camera, either using the IP or the domain name. I was wondering: is it an issue with the app itself, not using IPv6 addresses? Connecting to port 80 of the camera does work from the browser, and all ports are available (37777 and 37778). Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You could try other android camera apps like Tinycam and Onvifer, just to see if they work with IPv6. If they work, that might indicate that Pro View won't take IPv6 addresses.

Another thought:
Have you ever tried your cameras with IPv4 IP addresses and IPv6 DS-Lite? From what I've read, you have to ask your ISP if they will port forward your IPv4 IP addresses at their end. Maybe that would work for Pro View. I have not used IPv6.
