IPM-723 constant recording?

Hi there, apologies for the new guy question, just trying to figure this thing out...

I have my camera set up and my zones set up and I have gotten email based on people coming to my front door so that has been successful.

I notice though when I go to playback there is a red bar across the entire day and it appears that it is recording everything all day long. Is it supposed to do this? Seems like it might be a waste of space to record my front porch when there is zero movement detected.

Is there an advantage to having it this way or is there some way to get it to just record when someone sets off the motion detection?

Welp, I figured it out after more googling fortunately, thanks for all the help, this site appears to be really useful....
