IPM-722s wifi camera choppy recording

Post by Lloyd »

One of my cameras, a IPM-722s connects to DVR but recording is very choppy. It will record a few seconds then freeze for about 10 seconds, record a few, freeze 10...and so on. I upgraded to the latest firmware which I believe is 2.210 right now, did not help. It is fairly close to the wifi router (about 15 feet), so range should not be an issue. I have other wifi cameras doing fine, and much further away from the router. Live view only works once in a while. The camera will go completely offline once in a while.

Bandwidth seems okay, says I have 50Mbps out of 56Mbps available.

I tried restarting, power down, firmware update, moving closer to router and no juice.

That is much the same scenario that I have with my IP2M-841B. Although it is fairly close to my router (Netgear R6250) and in a strong wi-fi signal spot, I have constant problems on wi-fi. Connected via ethernet the camera is rock solid. We recently had some thefts from parked cars in our neighbourhood and I got some footage of the thieves. Fortunately, recording to the onboard sd card is trouble free. I've had the camera replaced once for this reason and I'm now thinking that there is an intrinsic problem either with the camera wi-fi hardware or the software driving it. I'm past caring and I'm looking at buying a long ethernet lead and running it to the camera. I've found when the camera drops off the network that if I disable SSD broadcasting on my router and then re-enable it, the camera re-connects. If it wasn't for the fact that all my other devices stay connected to the router (both on 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) for months at a time I might wonder if the router was causing it but it's only the camera that has the problem.

I replaced my camera, and while it is very laggy, it stays going.

There is something up with the wifi cams in general, because all of mine do it. I did notice that if I connect directly to the camera from my computer (and not look at the DVR console) it is much faster. So there is something going wrong between the wifi cam and the recording process. I have another thread opened on it. I was hoping I could get some clever ideas on how to reduce the lag but there does not seem to be much community support.
