IPM-722S Reboots on motion

Post by brucehvn »

I have 2 IPM-722S cameras that I'm trying to use with a Chinese DVR/NVR via ONVIF. The instructions for the NVR say that when using it in full digital mode like I am (no analog cameras), that in order for the NVR to do motion detection, it must be turned on in the camera.

I've turned on motion detection in the camera and set the MD region. When trying to test and see if the NVR is actually recording or not, the cameras reboot as soon as there's any motion in the frame, so I can't really tell if it's working or not.

I guess I'm not really clear on how this is supposed to work via ONVIF. I think that when there's an alarm like motion detection, it's supposed to generate some ONVIF event that the NVR will pick up on and start recording. Are there other settings I need to have in the camera to make that happen, other then just turning on motion detection?

Hello brucehvn,

The ONVIF only has limited support. So even if you enable it in the camera it might not work. Our IP cameras and NVR's works best with each other.

Hi Melvin,

I guess I need some clarification then. I bought these cameras because they were advertised as ONVIF compliant. It also says nowhere on the packaging or in the description I read on the Home Depot website about recommending that I have an Amcrest NVR/DVR. So, are you saying that the cameras do not generate events on motion to ONVIF connected clients? That seems to be the key to my situation. If they do, then I probably need help to make sure I've got all the settings correct. In the NVR, if I set the motion regions and sensitivity, it seems to get to the cameras properly as I see the same setting reflected there. In the cameras, I currently have the checkbox for motion detection checked, but not the recording checkbox since it seems like it only wants me to specify an FTP server to record to.

But my biggest issue right now is the fact that the cameras are rebooting when there's motion. With that happening, I can't tell if I can get it to the point of recording or not. What might be causing that?

Hello brucehvn,

I think the camera reboots after failing to successfully send motion detection info to the NVR. Yes, motion detection seems to having issues with ONVIF.

Hi Melvin,

So can this be filed as a bug report so someone can look into it? This really sort of torques my whole security system plan.

I changed the settings on these cameras to turn off motion detection and just had my NVR record 24/7 which is not what I wanted to do. I wanted to be able to just capture motion so I could easily see the times when some activity was happening and not have to scan through hours of footage. After doing that, the cameras still will reboot most of the time once some motion enters the frame. I also saw that they appear to have a lot of wi-fi dropouts throughout the day. I would estimate at least 30% of the day, there is no signal from the cameras. This makes them pretty much useless as security cams. I replaced my front door camera with an Escam QD300 and it works so much better. No wi-fi dropouts and the ONVIF motion detection works fine with my NVR.

I'll use these Amcrest cameras in some other more non-critical locations, but the reboot problem is really an issue and I'd like to find some solution for that.
