IPM-721W-EFS-FR cameras both stopped working yesterday

Post by asdqwe123444 »

Hi,

we got 2 of these 720p cameras from a seller on ebay, they arrived at the start of August and they worked until yesterday. They both now fail to connect.

I can give you the serial number if you want to check it (I posted it initially and have edited to remove it just in case its a security risk)

The other one is attached to the cot where my daughter is asleep so I didn't get it's S/N.

We have another of your cameras that we got when our first daughter was born, it's a 1080p camera and it is still working fine. Obviously I've tried resetting the cameras by powering them down, waiting, repowering them. restarting ipads etc. restarting the router etc. They don't work.

Hello and welcome to the Forum...

Sorry your having some problems with your cameras. While it is strange that both would go down at the same time and sounds like you have taken some steps to try and fix the connection...

Wonder if it is maybe a IP address issue. Once you got the cameras installed did you go into the settings and make sure the cameras DHCP was set to Static IP?

Also have you looked at your router table to see if they are in there still? At times they will have device names starting with AMC or AMD or something like that!

Then next question did you try using Amcrest IP config tool? You can get it from the amcrest website if it wasn't on the CD that may have came with your Cameras.... With that tool it can find your cameras and let you know the IP they are under at the moment... However your Router can tell you that as well. Even my Routers will pick up a 192 listed # even though my table of numbers are 10.

About the SN I personally wouldn't like them. There is people that spend countless hours trying to hack IP cameras and with someone knowing your SN only gives them that much more info....

Another thing that is IMPORTANT when buying your good of some Site other then a AMCREST Auth dealer your taking a Risk that the Hardware has been damaged. Maybe the person Force Installed a FW that changes the Security of the Camera. Talking about using a Camera as a Baby Monitor I would Highly recommend that it be from Amcrest or Amcrestdirect. If it is a Used product they will insure that the Product has been RESET to Factory and it is Ready for a new owner. Also even a Reset by the button might not take out the old owners info of them being able to use it. However coming from Amcrest or Amcrestdirect you know the product will work as expected before they sell...
Be Safe.

Thank you. I'll try again tomorrow. I held down the reset button on one of the cameras and did a fresh Wifi setup. Gave it the wifi password again. When it tries to do Live view it immediately says "Failed to connect".

I was wondering if the cameras were actually stolen and the serial numbers had been deactivated. That might explain them both stopping simultaneously. That was why I gave the serial number. When they arrived the package was completely unopened even though they're several years old. And even though they came from France, they had a security seal from "staples retail uk ltd".

Anyway, I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

Hi, So we've now realised that the cameras both work on our android phones, but not on any of our iPad's. I wonder if there was an update that broke the 720p cameras but not the 1080 camera on iOS?

The 1080 camera is an IP2M-841W

my ipad mini 2019 is on iOS 12.4
The "Android view pro" ipad app is on 3.31.0202

From my own experience I can say that there is a problem of some sort affecting iPhone and iPad connections to IP cameras. I can also say that it is not only Amcrest cameras that are being affected although they may all have hardware or firmware components in common, I don't know. I won't be surprised if IOS updates quietly come at that resolve the problems, saying that with my fingers crossed and hoping :)

I was hoping Amcrest could confirm whether there is a general problem with some cameras on iOS so that a solution can be implemented.

I can see on the app store that 3.31.0202 was released 2 years ago. I can see that on 26th August there was security patch, v12.4.1, on iOS. This date is spot-on for when they stopped working, assuming all our devices had it pushed on that date. I think they're all set to auto update.

So it seems that 12.4.1 may have broken these IPM-721 cameras on iOS.

Could someone at Amcrest confirm this please?

I am not aware of a direct issue with the devices and the IOS platform, please reach out to us directly so an agent such as myself can work with you directly.

I have finally got both my cameras displaying in ViewPro so I'll describe my setup and what I did just for what it's worth. I don't think I've done anything I hadn't tried before (except perhaps changing the video stream) but anyway...

I've got an iPhone 6S+ running IOS 12.4.1 and iPad2 on 9.3.5 (latest version for that device). I deleted Amcrest View Pro from both devices and then downloaded from AppStore again to both of them.

I setup the cameras on both in the same way via device manager, add device, IP/Domain and entered the name I wanted, IP addresses, port numbers (I have set the TCP port to a different number on each although I'm not sure if this is necessary), user and password for each one and finally I changed the default stream from "Extra" to "Main".

Having done that I clicked on live view and both cameras connected and displayed normal video.
