iPhone connects to IP2M-844E via Safari, but not via the Amcrest View Lite app

Post by ivordurham »

I have an IP2M-844E to which my iPhone can connect via the web browser, but the Amcrest View Lite app on the phone is failing to connect to the camera, so no Live View. Same IP address, same password. If I use a Linux system on the same network, I can telnet to ports 80 and 37777 on the camera, which is the default port when I connect the iPhone app via IP/DNS. I also tried scanning the QR code to set up the iPhone connection via P2P. The Live View window fails to connect to the camera with either setup method. I've had the iPhone app working in the past. AT&T swapped out the router when it died a few months ago, but the telnet test from the Linux box works to both port 80 and port 37777, so it doesn't look like the router is the problem. I can browse the Internet from the phone in addition to connecting to the camera in the browser, so its network access seems fine. I have had the camera show the visible password in the app and confirmed that it too is correct. I can try Wireshark to look at packets I suppose. I'd appreciate hearing about potential causes or any further diagnostic suggestions for this app connection problem given the successful telnet connections.

RESOLVED: iPhone connects to IP2M-844E via Safari, but not via the Amcrest View Lite app

Post by ivordurham »

I stumbled on the solution to my problem: In the Amcrest View Lite iPhone app I looked at the "Configuration Center" and through that discovered that the app was communicating with the camera because it could show me the current configuration, even though the Live View reported a failure to connect. Within the Configuration Center I followed the Video Stream option and found a "Video" button which was in the "Off" position. Moving it to "On" enabled the Live View to connect and I could once again view the live video stream on my iPhone. I hadn't turned this off in the app and I haven't yet found the equivalent of this button through the camera's web interface, so how this got turned off remains a bit of a mystery. I was always able to see the Live View via Internet Explorer on a PC. It seems a bit counter-intuitive that the Configuration Center for the camera is separate from the Device Manager, but that may just be a semantic problem.
