IP5M-T1179EW Cameras Dropping Out

Post by donstal49 »

I have an Amcrest NV4116E-HS NVR. It monitors 9 IP cameras. Four are plugged directly into and powered by the NVR and the others are on a POE switch on the same network as the NVR. I have a monitor connected to the NVR via HDMI cable.

I purchased two IP5M-T1179EW-28MM cameras this past year and have a problem with them dropping out all the time. They are connected directly to the NVR. It looks as if they are rebooting every few minutes. When an image does appear on screen, it shows a very jumpy image that updates infrequently (you can see the clock freeze, then jump ahead) then goes black. The onscreen message for the cameras will say "Offline" or "Can not find network host". None of the other cameras exhibit this behavior.

If I connect the cameras directly to a computer, the video is fine—no dropouts and smooth motion with no delay.

I've communicated with Customer Support via email and have performed requested resets and other tasks and have been told that I need to speak to a senior tech. Twice I've made an appointment to receive a call back and twice have not received any call back. Calling into the Customer Support phone line is a miserable experience. The connection is usually bad and it is very difficult to understand what the tech is saying. They are very polite but unable to help with the problem or provide a connection to a senior tech.

Putting aside Customer Support issues, has anyone had this problem with the IP5M-T1179EW-28mm cams or have any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to the Forum

Personally this sounds like a Cable issue.. This could be because you have bad cable connecters or maybe even CCA cables.. Also might be that the cable is to long..

Another thing to try is look at the logs in the Network Switch if it is a Managed one. It can tell you of the cables are bad or if there is a power issue.. I would take the camera of one that is working and plug in one of the ones that isn't working on that cable and see if that cures the issues...

What type of POE switch are you using? Have you tried to see what happens when you unplug from POE Switch and try to plug into a 12v Power supply to test if it is a power issue.. Please note that a Power issue could be nothing more then bad cable and failing to take power needed to the camera over the cables.. Also 1 thing is when the cable was run it might have been pulled to a kink or damaged in a way that is casing issues..

While it could work on one way and not another because of the way the camera is working with different types of connections.. While some might say Encoding is Encoding however there is factors in what and why things happen and when we see things say in the WebUI and it is encoding it isn't 100% as it might be with a NVR connection and trying to display on the screen...

Personally it sounds like POwer

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

I substituted a brand new camera (same resolution, different model) for each of the malfunctioning cameras and the video shows up perfect on the monitor in both channels. So, the ethernet cables seem to be working fine providing power and video. I'm not using a POE switch with the two bad cameras other than the POE ethernet jacks on the back of and built into the NVR. The cable runs to the bad cameras are 20-30' max.

Same Res different model different brand?

Problem is there are different issues with different cameras..

So say I have a 150 POS CCA cable that I can run a POE 1080p camera and I connect to a different 1080p camera same brand even but different model and 1 camera it works on mind you I didn't use it long because I know better so I wanted to see if the other one and only difference is between the 2 is one has 32 IR LEDs and the other one has 2 IR leds and oddly enough just going into the 2 IR camera both being 1080p the start up of the camera smoked it.. Sure one can say that it was going bad and it took it over the top however both cameras are POE af and was pluged into the same POE port of my POE+ switch and while some might say that it was over powered by the switch the switch only gives the power that is required by the device connected and infact is better power then my normal POE switch.. After replacing the burnt out SMD cap that got smoked. I tested it again same port different cable and it worked just fine and it was 200' of true copper cable so to be fair it was even longer so it wasn't that the cable was to long.. CCA can make some cameras not happy and I think the 1179 if I remember right is a single LED that is a High Power LED so to be fair could be a current issue..

Yes I know High Volts is low current for POE.. Also something to note.. Some cameras and I don't know what ones are what but some Require all 8 pins of Cat cable for the camera to work some only require 6 and some will work off 4 and some of that has to do with how it delivers the current to the camera.. So it could also be that the one camera that is working, works because it don't require a wire that might be damaged and maybe the 1179 requires more of the pin count...
Be Safe.
