IP5M-T1179E Not coming online

Post by ITGuy1024 »

Hey all. I've had this setup for about 5 years now. I have my NVR scheduled to reboot every Monday at 0800. A few weeks ago after the reboot my one camera didn't come back online. I rebooted the NVR again and pulled the camera down to hit the reset button. Still not able to get it to come up. I moved the cable to another port on the NVR - no luck. I used small patch cable to test the camera on another port and the camera came right up.
Ok perfect it's a cable issue. I re-crimped both ends of the cable - no luck. I start looking for any damage to the cable. I found 2 mild kinks. I cut the cable and put a new end on before both of those kinks - still no luck.
However... The camera shows up in the NVR, it grabs an IP address, I can see the IR lights on the camera working. At this point I feel like it's not a cable issue but an issue with the camera or NVR. Probably something simple.

From what you mention it sounds like the 16 pin Ethernet Transformer in the camera is going bad. Why I say this. You use a new smaller cable and the camera will come up. You say the camera shows on the NVR that isn't 100% really there showing it is working it just knows it is there on that Channel and detects the connection but the issue is that it *The Filter* has failed and the picture can not make a long distance travel with the cable the length that it is... Easy but short fix would be to move or get a second NVR that is within the short distance that the camera can transmit... The best and long lasting fix is the take camera down, Pull apart and remove the small 16 Pin Transformer and solder in another one. This would require good solder sklls and to be honest a micro soldering station would make the repair so much easier, However if you have a station like the Hakko FX-951 or 880 you could use JL02 or the D16... There are some others that could be small enough but I know I can use those 2 for sure making that repair... I know not everyone has a Hakko that don't do repairs but you will want a good quality soldering iron, If you try to use one form a Big box store you most likely would end up damaging the PCB board..
Be Safe.
