IP4M-1041 odd issue with pan limits and resetting position

Post by JBauer »

So a year ago I was out of the country, and while gone the camera out of nowhere moved itself to pointing towards the wall.

I thought nothing of it, decommissioned it for while I was at home...

Now have put it into commission doing something else. And again every few days it seems to move on its own.

And also now there are limits to how low I can pan it. Previously I could pan it about 40-50 degrees lower than it is 'locked' in at now. Rebooting doesn't solve the problem.

I've done some searching and can't find any hints on what these two issues are, which I think are related... Because the first issue can go days before presenting, as opposed to a situation where it happens on a nightly reboot. (And auto-reboot is not checked)

Any ideas? I'd prefer not to replace it.

Thanks.

My first guess would be that this is caused by a re-boot. Have you got any preset positions set up?

I have rebooted multiple times.

I have re-set presets, and just hours later, on its own, the camera moves it's position up. And then when I use one of those presets, the camera moves down, but is not pointed far lower than the preset was set (and properly tested)

I believe it is defective but it's an awfully strange defect... That the camera has it's position feedback out of whack randomly. (And then moves itself to where it thinks it is supposed to be pointing)

Oh and the firmware is up to date of course. Thanks for your response though.

In that case I might start looking at a review of security. Look at access logs, change password, change authorised users etc. but, to me, it still smacks of something causing a re-boot.

Is the camera powered by a dedicated power supply and is it firmly seated in the outlet socket. Unfortunately I don't know the camera so I can't make any better guess :)

I do know that years ago there was some issues with 841 and some others acting this way.. One thing found out was that if Preset 3 was set it would act strange so resetting the camera and not setting up the Space 3 preset the camera has not moved..I have some of these still in place with older FW still installed.. So I am not sure that is your issue seeing you are saying this is the 4mp ver and know at the time only one had this issue was 2mp..SO first I would look at your FW if it is older and they offer a newer one I would Update to the latest FW and see if that cures it.. My guess is if someone had control of this camera they wouldn't be pointing it to the Wall Unless they are gaining access to your home and are not smart enough to put it back facing correct position.. I know I have another Real PTZ from another company that after being connected to their 16ch POE NVR without rebooting either one I will come to the Monitor station and find it facing the wall like a Bad 3rd old lol ahahahahha reboot and it works for a few months..Oddly remove from their NVR and it never does that lol Strange..
Be Safe.
