IP3M-941 Sound

I use the camera to monitor activities in my shop. The sound is terrible and often has a ton of reverb that builds till it is so loud it hurts your ears. I have tried everything I can figure out to correct this but nothing works.

I purchased an external microphone and tried to get it to work via the control panel and setting it to line and it would not work either.

Has anyone had these problems and come up with a solution.

Not a single reply. Surely someone has put an external mic on their IP3M-941 or equivalent and has some thoughts about it.

I'm currently trying to do the same thing for a work project. How has no one tried this yet? From what I've read, a powered mic might be required?
