I just purchased a new, "In The Shrink Wrapped Box: IP2M-841b. It will not initialize, (Run the PTZ Initialization) or get an IP Address, either wirelessly or wired ethernet from a known good DHCP server.
I have been a network engineer, for more than 30 years, I have installed over 400 both analog and IP cameras. I have tried the "Reset to factory settings", also failed.
I am pretty sure it's a lost cause, however strange things happen all the time; looking for ideas.
IP2M-841b Will Not Initialize out of the Box
Re: IP2M-841b Will Not Initialize out of the Box
Hello and Welcome to the Forum.
IF your camera a V3 or the one that you posted. If it is as stated then it would seem that your New Old Stock device is defective or maybe the Power block that it is working with isn't working.
Depending on what year model 841B that you ended up with you might be able to pull the plug from the Brick and use a different power block that is 5v and 2 amp rated or better. If the older model with the cord attached to the power brick then will need to source a new power supply for testing that your camera is really dead or not..
With your more then 30 years and all the cameras you have already installed I know you don't need me to tell you what steps need to be taken or how to fix this camera. Just some ideas of what I would do. I mean easy for me to say with over a dozen of the 841s that I own and having extra power supplies. But will say that trying to test using power from a PC it isn't enough power to be able to make the camera work. While I can't say that is what it is for every PC out there. I think even USB 3.0 is less then an Amp so a power supply for the camera would need to be more then what a PC can support. If you have a DVR or NVR from Amcrest or Dahua the good news is they do support enough to power the cameras. Not all DVR/NVRs will from other brands but I have found a few others that I own that do power the cameras.
Before calling the camera dead I would look into testing the power supply for the camera.
Again with your background, you don't need me to tell you how power supplies work or how they might fail even before ever being used. While this is not normally a camera that fails even being a NOS seeing the last NOS 841 that I just bought still in packaging is from 2015 even before Amcrest had their current line of Mac Addresses for the products. I will admit that I do seek out NOS amcrest devices.. That power supply is still in good working condition.

As an Electronics repair tech I can tell you that sometimes "new" devices do not work even right out of the box.
I would 2nd the advice of testing the PS not only for voltage but also for current delivery capability. Voltage is irrelevant if there's not enough current to do the job.
Failing that....R&R is your friend.
