IP2M-841B v2 - JS FW 2020 or not?

Post by Tungsten E2 »

Hi all,

I already have 2 IP2M-841B v2 working fine with V2.420.AC00.18.R.20191218.bin

Just purchased another used IP2M-841B v2 with older FW. Thinking about updating to JS FW 2020,
but after reading the negative comments I am not sure if I should do it.

Anybody can give me an idea of pros and cons in order to decide if old 2019 or new 2020 JS version should be updated?

I understand that there is a risk of not being able to downgrade.

thx

It's going to be a brave man or woman who makes a recommendation :D

I've had 3 IP2M-841's and am now down to just a single one. I like the qualities of the image I get from it. Thinking back to each occasion when I've updated firmware, I've never seen any improvement for the way I use the cameras and the major difference has been after the move to javascript it meant that I didn't have to use the IE plugin any longer to access the video stream in the web UI.

There may be others who use their cameras differently to me who have noticed a benefit of upgrading.
My AMCREST Cameras:-
2 x IP3M-941B firmware V2.620.00AC00.3.R, Build Date: 2019-12-18
1 x IP2M-841B firmware V2.420.AC00.18.R, Build Date: 2019-08-03

I am not using the WebUI but TinyCam Pro on mobile and tablet.

Plugin is no longer needed with V2.420.AC00.18.R.20191218.bin, but is this already JS? Dont think so.

The only thing I do not like with V2.420.AC00.18.R.20191218.bin, I can not get the stream to work on my Homeautomation TabletUI, due to some android webview issues.

Yes the 2019 FW of the 841 is Released as a JS Chrome ready FW and in most cases as long as your camera was stable before the Release it should be stable after as well.. Sadly there is no way to know what Version of Chrome your Tablet is using and if it is true Chrome or some type of App that was released by Chrome for a low memory low drive space devices to have a look and feel of Chrome but isn't chrome..

What the 2020 and 2019 FW was to open and let people with computers and devices with Chrome to have access of the camera without the need of Using IE and plug ins.. I have a Samsung S9 that has Chrome and I can use my Chrome to access my camera over my phone without an issue.. I have to do this in areas that I have cameras that I don't have a computer because I forgot my Laptop or other reason and need to save a Preset I can use my phones Chrome to save the Preset it has been a life saver for me anyway..

Is 2019 FW update Flawless no sadly nothing in the world is.. In Remote areas that I have my Cameras if I have bad Internet service where it goes down often or at my Cabins Barn that is over 400' from my cabin and didnt pull cable back there yet I have 2017 FW cameras in them areas as they don't require a internet connection to playback footage oddly one of the things I don't like about the 2019 and 2020 fw they require internet to playback footage off the MSD other then that no big issues

I can not confirm that there is not playback without internet connection.
I blocked internet access for my Amcrest cams on the router.

For me it is working, but there seems to be an issue with the playback function.
Some of the files will not get loaded/played.

Currently I am using fw V2.420.AC00.18.R, Build Date: 2020-02-17

I have opened a ticket with Amcrest.

Amcrest is suggestion to use Samsung Evo SD cards, but even with SanDisk Extreme I get this playback issues,
