IP2M-841 Reset Home Position or disable PTZ?
IP2M-841 Reset Home Position or disable PTZ?
How please to reset the Home position on the IP2M-841? For some reason it is ZOOMED in on an odd position after a reboot. Can the PTZ be disabled at all? This location has frequent power issues and the cameras are not monitored. Thanks!
Re: IP2M-841 Reset Home Position or disable PTZ?
Hello Canny1,
Unfortunately there is no option for this at the moment. The disable preset or going to a defined preset after reboot is a feature under consideration.

Re: IP2M-841 Reset Home Position or disable PTZ?
Amcrest should add the ability to set a defined position on reboot! This feature is already apparently available if you are subscribed and synced to Amcrest Cloud; when logged in through the cloud service to your camera, it allows you to save the "home" position. Why then is it not a feature available through the camera's own web interface???
This is one very useful feature that the Amcrest IP2M-841 is lacking, but it would seem to be an easy feature to add.

Hello csmonty1,
We will be certainly adding new features based on customers feedback. This is something that is already in line for future addition.

Re: IP2M-841 Reset Home Position or disable PTZ?
hello csmonty1
i have the same amcrest camera IP2M-841 but with a W at the end. IP2M-841W. which is the same firmware.
Look the situation i had with this camera with the sotfware version. my camera was the sotware version below.
Software Version 2.520.AC00.18.R, Build Date: 2017-06-29
WEB Version3.2.1.453504
ONVIF Version2.42(V2.2.2.428697)
today i decided to update the firmware version and i found something weird, the update version its lower but the build date its newer. you can search on this link https://amcrest.com/firmwaredownloads#searchbox and look for our model camera.
and the available update its
V 2.420.AC00.18.R 2/17/20
as you can see the camera itself has a higher version software (2.520), but built on 2017 and the update is (2.420) but build on 2020.
so i contacted this people by the chat on their website and ask for this discrepancy. anyway the lady told me to go ahead and proceed with the update, because i want to make sure nothing will brick the camera which happends a lot on the firmware updating process.
Well after i did the update i saw i few changes, but i noticed i lost the funtion to change the set of the default ptz camera, now its happening what you just described on this post. i cant change or set a different restart point for my camera, everytime its reboots, its in a different position. i lost a a crucial feature.
with my old "old firmware version" i had this feature working flawlessly, and i see this people say they dont have this feature on this camera. Terrible. Thanks god i only bought one of this, i have plenty of foscam cameras and theyre working perfect, and i want to try amcrest because a friend said to me theyre really good, now i have a biig reason to shut his mouth up. anyway im not going to continue how frustuating i am now. bye bye amcrest
i thinks this is why i lost this so important feature, because this damn update. i had it, not anymore.
what i read and heard, you can get this feature paying a cloud suscription with them, Bad idea.
And also this is an old situation for many customers, this is not a year ago issue, its from back 2015 or even older, and what they say its "we are collecting all this feedback to improve the products and add more features, that our customers request". this is Big Bull S... after 5 years, today june the 6th of 2020 and still have this problem and no update whats so ever. ok lets move on...
So i would like to know first of all if you still going with amcrest?
if you still have the same issue or were solved?
what software version do you have actually in your camera?
did you update?
Sorry for the inconvinience.

Re: IP2M-841 Reset Home Position or disable PTZ?
I recently picked up three of these and each one had different firmware versions.
I never did see an option to set the ptz however all three of the units I bought from Amcrest direct via Amazon grind when powered on as the ptz tour force the gears pst their limit.
There is no way to set a ptz location on startup on this model. I have these going to a Dahua XVR for recording.
Probably going to return the whole lot since if a power loss occurs all cams will point in the default position which isn’t adequate or ideal.
It’s been years and this “feature” isn’t out and it won’t ever be, cause updating something like this and releasing new firmware doesn’t take years.
Does anyone know of a better Amcrest ptz cam that can have its ptz tour modified and saved if power loss occurs? I’d happily give that a shot back what I have now.

@Felinecam Hello and welcome to the Forum
So about the 841 if it has 2019 or newer FW there seems to be an issue and something that I found might be something that can help you (Maybe)
Setting the cameras Perset don't matter when the camera moves off preset by the user because after weekly reboot the camera will return to that area last moved. While most of my Cameras went back to the 2.520 version from 2017 now I do still have some that are plagued with this issue so this is how I cure it
Set Preset 1 to a location that is just to the right or left a very short bump of where you want it. Bump it slight to the right or left. Then put it back on Preset 1. Now Reboot the camera. The camera will go off that position to the last moved position it was moved.. I know it is kind of not easy to understand so I will make it something you can try so you have a better understanding..
Set your camera to position you want. Then move the camera to the right, and down some. Then go back to the preset1. Then remove power from camera and restore power to the camera. At first after it does it's dance you will think it is going to be where you want it until it will move to that position that was to the right and down some. Even going back to the Preset 1 again remove power again. When you restore power it will once again return back to the right and down some..
So to cure this for me anyway with my NEWer FW cameras is to put it on a preset to 1 tap of the right or left of true spot and from then on it will always return to that spot after being turned back on...
Out side of that. there is the New 841v3, 941v3 and 1041 that is the v3 of the 1051.. These cameras don't have audio in or out and alarm in and out so if you don't need them then I would buy the new V3. They also offer Motion Tracking and don't have odd issues with placing your camera in crazy places that you don't want after a reboot or power cycle..
Another new Camera is the 1190W and it is with some new features maybe one to look for if you need a camera or 2 outdoors..

Re: IP2M-841 Reset Home Position or disable PTZ?
Thanks @Revo2Maxx ,
I apologize for the lack of details on the exact models I have. They are:
ip2m-841-v3's and they have the following on each of them.
Software VersionV2.800.0000000.15.R, Build Date: 2021-07-16
WEB VersionV3.2.1.18144
ONVIF Version20.06(V2.9.0.970440)
I'll give the trick you mentioned above a shot and see if that helps. I've been getting errors on these cameras which is hard to track down exactly what is going on with them, when trying to access details surrounding motion detection settings, one cam will show details, while another will show "failed to retrieve configuration" yet they are all on the same network, and have solid coverage and signal strength.
One other issue I've run into, after the firmware update, is that the web based interface for each camera, it fails to load the corresponding styles and graphics and you get a white page with a form that then loads the actual form and styles, but then refreshes quickly and if you don't wait and start typing in your credentials they are cut off and you have to start again. You also can't restart a camera via the ios app either, only the web based interface.
I'll try the above trick on the PTZ portion and see if that doesn't make things better. I've been through a slew of various cams and manufacturers and they all see to have quirky issues that could really be ironed out but these really come close to being decent, shame the firmware can't iron out the last of the wrinkles.

Re: IP2M-841 Reset Home Position or disable PTZ?
I am away from my home atm issues you talked about only seen on older v1 or v2 841"s my 841v3 is in odd spot and has returned to last location on reboot now one thing is if you digital zoom in it won't stay like the older 841 would. I should be home before long for some testing more.
Your post is about a different camera then the OP was talking about.
Edit also if at location via cgi you can reboot even from cell phone using
http://<ip>/cgi-bin/magicBox.cgi?action=reboot
Just will be asked to put in user and pass but does work
