iOS app doesn't recognize port on IP4M-1025E

Post by dtcamcrest »

I have two Amcrest cameras:
A: IP2M-841, set to use port 8883
B: IP4M-1025E, set to use port 8884

I can access both of them via Internet Explorer at their respective ports - as expected.

BUT using the Amcrest iOS app, I find that I have to set the app to use port 37777 for Camera B for it to work. Otherwise I simply get connection timed out.

Any idea why this might be?

Hello dtcamcrest,

On the phone app, you need to use the TCP port of the camera if you are using the IP/Domain method. This is by default 37777 but it can be changed.

I don't think you're understanding my problem. When I set the iOS app to use 8884, it doesn't work.

However, my other camera (IP2M-841) behaves pretty much the opposite way - which is what I would expect.

Hi.

I'm a new customer so I don't really know what I'm doing yet but I'm also having issues with their camera (an IP2m-841) and my iPhone. It used to work ok but now I think I may need an update. Haven't called support yet as they are closed.

I noticed they didn't post back a solution so I'll offer what info I can think of :

If you're using a TCP port for communication make sure all devices including the camera are set to use the same port.

In other words, if Cam B is using port 8884 then make sure your monitoring device software is also set to use port 8884.

In your posted images your CAM B TCP ports aren't matching.
On the Amcrest page you're showing CAM B using port 37777 while
on your iPhone page with the timeout picture your cam's TCP port is set to 38884 or something like that.

Think of a port as a telephone number where all devices need to be using the same phone number for data to be exchanged.

If your software is looking for your CAM B on a different port (phone number) than your CAM B is set to use, they won't communicate with each other.

Imagine you're trying to call your best friend 'Joe' but you're dialing the wrong phone number.
You won't be able to communicate (exchange data) with Joe until you're calling him on the correct phone number (port).

Was trying to edit my post again to add information but it seems this forum's edit doesn't work correctly when editing more than once...
So far my experience with this company's support is not good.
In the above I accidentally wrote port '38884' when I meant to write 8884.

Regarding ports, just to let you know TCP is a different communication protocol than HTTP.
In your image you have your HTTP port set to 8884 but not your TCP port which I believe you mentioned you were using TCP to communicate with.

So make sure your ports are matching for whatever protocol you're trying to use.

For example if you wanted to access your camera directly from your web browser using HTTP (and it's assigned port) you would probably enter it's IP address and the HTTP port number such as :

192.168.1.54:8884

Maybe you don't need the port number but only the IP address:192.168.1.54
then the user/password.

Something to add here:

I got my camera working again with my iPhone using the Amcrest iOS app.

First let me tell you customer support over the phone sucks.
The guy kept telling me I need to turn on my router's port forwarding or it will never work with my iPhone.

I told him that's wrong cause it's working on my Mac both with my web browser and their application using the exact same port number(s) and it used to work with my iPhone and I've never turned on port forwarding.

He kept trying to convince me to let him take control of my Mac via remote control.
Hell no am I going to let anyone do that. This is my work machine and I have a lot of valuable stuff on here.

After about an hour of their support guy having no clue about what he's doing I realized there's an Amcrest iOS app update. Previously I asked the tech support guy if there's an update and if that could be the problem he said no. Only the port forwarding can be the problem he kept saying.

Fool was wrong.
I did turn on port forwarding and it still didn't work.

He said if that's the case then the camera won't ever work with the iPhone because it must be broken.
Wrong again.

After I noticed the Amcrest iOS update and updated it worked again.

Incredibly stupid the Amcrest iOS app wouldn't continue working without an update.

I will add, I had issues being able to do the app store download because of broken AppleID shit which drove me nuts.
Someone should really fire Tim Cook; he's ruining Apple.

So the lesson learned is if your Amcrest camera stops working on any of your devices, you may want to check for a software update first.

Having new problems with this POS camera and POS software.

I just updated to the newest Amcrest iOS software and also reset my iPhone's network settings as Amcrest suggests and it still does not work.

Honestly I can say this company is garbage.

If you're reading this you should not buy anything from this company.

My guess is the software engineers are complete idiots which is why things don't work correctly and they're often having updates...

Once again the edit for this forum doesn't work.

I just wanted to add if you think my comments are unfair or harsh towards this company and it's products consider how many hours of my life I'm wasting every time they do a stupid update which then breaks the camera software from working...

Today alone I've wasted two hours.
If I add in my other time from other update / issues I've wasted over 20 hours messing around with this stupid company's defunct product.

This is a good lesson for me because I'm going to do my entire property and I need about 30 cameras.

I WILL NOT BE USING ANYTHING AMCREST AS THEIR PRODUCTS ARE JUNK!

Hello meTC,

Sorry to hear about your experience. So after the app update the camera no longer works on the app? Could you please delete and re add the camera on the app?

Amcrest help over the phone is horrible..........via email is worse. I've put detailed information about my camera and come back and ask what it is and the model number. THEY DO NOT READ !!!!!!!! AND THEY UNDERSTAND LESS !!
